694486 2008-08-03 05:26:00 Hi

i want to know if this : www.thermaltake.com could power 2 8800gt's or ati 4870's by itself?

if it could would the rest of my computer be powered by my 300w psu?

i got at the moment:

amd athlon 64 3800+ (2.41 ghz)
1.25 gb ram
160 gb hdd
1 dvd drive
8600gt (don't ever buy this card)
2 fans

I'm hoping to keep my old psu (300w) and get the purepower thing.
Could both those power supply's run this?

Intel core 2 quad (q6600)
3gb ram
160gb hdd
1 optical drive
3 fans
2x8800gt or 2x ati 4870's

Thanks :)

694487 2008-08-03 05:53:00 It'll probably work (for the cards).

But I doubt 300W will be enough for the CPU, fans, hdd, and DVD/CD. On the intel

It might work on the AMD

694488 2008-08-03 06:25:00 If your old PSU is old, crappy and 300watt - and probably some horrific brand too then I wouldn't bother... just get rid of it and get a new, decent PSU that can power the lot Agent_24 (57)
694489 2008-08-03 22:00:00 The question is, how much does it cost? It's probably almost cheaper to get a brand new PSU that is better quality than Thermaltake.

Look for Silverstone or Corsair, they make some good cheapish PSUs.

694491 2008-08-04 04:37:00 well if i bough the psu meant for the graphics cards only i would have $100 left

694492 2008-08-04 04:56:00 300w is to small for your old pc let alone the new one.

i wouldn't bother getting the power express, just get a decent power supply. even a middle of the road one will do.

694495 2008-08-05 04:38:00 i suppose i won't need 2x 8800's
1x 8800 would be ok or a 1x ati 4870

thanks for your help but those power supplies are over $100 :/

I suppose i could also settle for a 9600gt/gso
