444314 2006-04-06 00:11:00 I read on the IDG Computerworld site that 70% of NZ is still on Dial Up. That came as a surprise to me. I guess the pitiful Semi Broadband is to blame for the 70%.
Were I to leave NZ & have to give 10 reasons for leaving, one of them would be 'To get better Broadband'. Having said that it would take a lot for me to forsake Wonderful Wanganui. PJ (In serious mode)

444315 2006-04-06 02:19:00 I saw at stuff.co.nz that there are like 1.2 million people using the internet and something like 890,000 are on dialup.

That was really funny.I didnt expect so many people are using dialup.Really pathetic really.

Yeah same. One of the reason for me to leave nz is because of broadband.I can't be bothered waiting 3 minutes for a page to load. Can't be bother waiting 2 hours to update my computer from microsoft

444316 2006-04-06 02:31:00 Wow, I would have thought it was higher - I only know two or three people still on 56k. Telecom's new $30 per month plan will probably decrease the number of dial up users, but it's not so much that they will be upgrading to broadband, more that they will have an always on connection that doesn't tie up their telephone line. maccrazy (6741)

444318 2006-04-06 03:30:00 I'll stay on my $10 a month dial up. It's OK for emails, forums, lots of searches and news sites. On dial up music, video clips, movies, all that stuff is not practical but that's ok for the moment. mark c (247)
444319 2006-04-06 08:00:00 I'm considering going back to dial-up, NZ broadband is either too slow to make use of what should be available with a broadband connection, or knee-capped by crazy data caps and a price structure based on rape and pillage.

All it gives me at the moment is a telephone that can always ring, and an extra bill each month.

Right now?

Hiding from Mrs Metla, seems that after repeated warnings not to eat the cup cakes she had just baked for some kids event tommorrow I accidently found where they were stashed and a handfull became dislodged and popped right into my mouth.

Tasty.

And in a second Im going to go watch the dragons on TV1.....

444322 2006-04-06 10:39:00 Well, I turned off the TV in disgust, I won't be watching the dragons den again.

To see them rubbishing the interflush because they couldn't stand the sight of their own bowel movements was quite pathetic, They were grasping at straws to put down the product, they had to be.Bizzare.

And then to preach at the guy that raping the enviorment to make money was a good thing?

Hell, I like money myself, very fond of it, But lets be honest, all the worlds pollution issues are there simply because of the world wide drive to make as much money as possible.

That guys invention was worth billions, any fool could see that, There are millions of greenies around the world who would snap that up, as well as people with limited water supplies, school, factories, People on water metres, and the billions upon billions of people that just can't see the need to waste that much water.

We are currently in the process of refurishing the bathroom, Now If I can't source a bog that stops flushing when the handle is released then I'll buy one that is compatable with his invention.

Mark my words, within a few years every toilet on the market will work in this way.

I wonder if he needs a NZ destributer, I might send him an email..

444323 2006-04-06 12:35:00 Ignoring Metla's post (I turned off The Dragons because the first part was boring - not as fascinating as toilet flushes, alas) my comment relates to the first few posts.

Anyone even vaguely considering leaving New Zealand because of the state of our broadband definitely needs to get a life.

Maybe it makes sense if you're a highly-paid IT professional whose career absolutely depends on it.
(Yeah, right. How many of those here?)

Otherwise - what were you doing when there was no such thing, anyway? Existing happily, I'll bet.

I can vouch for the fact that you can still have a life on DialUp.
(Yes, friends do get fed up when the phone sounds always engaged, but you can train them not to complain. Well, I hope so...still trying. Might have to make a timetable, but wotthell)

And I'm not referring to this thread, but there are so many posts from kids who obviously don't have to fork out for the phone bill, but want top dollar connection that an occasional dose of reality wouldn't hurt.

I'll stick with my simple phone bill at present, thank you. It may have better options, but I'm used to it - and it certainly isn't ruling my life.
