I expect it would have a painful bite :)

They can be big, I have seen one with the red 'shield' as big as my thumb-nail, and the abdomen about the size from the bottom of the nail to the joint.
Ie. about the size of the end of my thumb

Sounds like it was difficult to balance on your thumb and not a very scientific method of measuring. ;)

It's a good thing I didn't know we had big spiders like that in our bush or I would have to enjoy my bush walks alone. :p
