446207 2006-04-14 03:37:00 I see that this doctor, who refused to go to Iraq, has been Jailed & Dismissed from the RAF.
If going to Iraq was Voluteers only, I wonder how many Soldiers would be there at all. Any comments. PJ :2cents: :2cents:

That is the American answer to everything

446210 2006-04-14 04:08:00 All armies have done it like that, The Russians saved their amo to shoot anyone who tried to retreat, The British, Aussies and probally NZ have shot a boatload of people for not following orders.

Can't just have people deciding their own plan when it comes to warfare.

Not that i really think he should have been shot, But they have to be firm. If no one follows the gameplan then failure is garenteed.

446211 2006-04-14 04:31:00 I have my doubts about the genuineness of this guy, it's not as if he was going there to kill people, he was being sent there as a doctor to save people.

Did anyone see the SAS guy interviewed last night on Campbell Live? He resigned with the approval of his CO. He seemed a tough young bloke, but he disagreed with the American method of fighting 'rebels' with almighty firepower, killing everyone else too who happen to be around. "Co-lateral damage" they call it.
As he said, you dont go and fight insurgents armed with AKs in the streets and houses with helicopter gunships, he implied you would use the SAS methods of hand to hand and cold steel, 'they don't like it up 'em you know'.

The Yanks learnt nothing from Vietnam, nothing about guerilla warfare, nothing about "winning the hearts and minds", even though the way to do it had been demonstrated by the Brits in the Malayan Emergency combating Chinese communists who were trying to take over.

I had to use IE, my Firefox wouldn't open the video file.

Hell no. If everyone decided their leaders were bonkers and it was all a stupid idea then there might be no fighting. Or the leaders might have to slug it out themselves. Totally not on.
Just imagine what might have happened if the german soldiers had decided Hitler was off his tree and told him to go invade Poland himself.

446214 2006-04-14 06:01:00 At least he has a clear conscience and as a Doctor he obviously cares about people.
No soldier / airman etc is expected to break international law, unfortunately he was a bit late complaining about it. Still happy there are still guys around who will stand up for what they believe.

Blindly following orders gave us the SS, Nazi's and gas chambers, No thanks.

446215 2006-04-14 06:22:00 No, The Germans gave us those things. And our efforts in both wars would have come to nothing if everyman just followed his own gameplan.

When you join the armed forces its to perform a duty, not a job.

446216 2006-04-14 06:48:00 These people a killing themselves at an alarming rate, one sect against the other, how do you win the hearts and minds of this lot.
