| 447000 | 2006-04-24 01:24:00 | Looking back at the discussion sofar, a rebuttal i missed: "where did the universe start from if god didnt make it?" Well what made/started god then? 1) Why should it need a "god" to start it? 2) Out of nothing?......a very good question if looking at the beginning of time as we know it, (but not time as we are not yet fully able to understand/explain). Keep working Mr Hawking et al. Primitive peoples have always invented "gods" to explain the events and forces of nature that they cannot understand. Smarter heads among the primitive peoples at the dawn of mankind developed and encouraged "godly" fears to reinforce their power and ability to control those peoples. It may not necessarily have been a bad thing in in those times. However, since then it has descended into pomp and pageantry, with unconscionable wealth mulcted from poor peoples. Witness the obscene wealth of the catholic church while many of its greatest adherents live in abject poverty. I bet their most fervent hope is that the promise of eternal life does not turn out to mean oblivion, or just more of the same for all of eternity! Cheers Billy 8-{) |

We live a corporeal existence in a physical world . Our daily concerns focus on money and material possessions (apart from members of this esteemed forum :D ) . Yet any human can appreciate the beauty of the sunset despite it having no physical value . Why? Why be moved by the sight of a star being occluded by the planetary rim? I'm feeling a bit mystical at the moment and so I'm off to find some more of those lovely little mushrooms . ;) |

Speaking for myself Winston, although I find sunsets appealing, I'm also rather partial to a touch of the corporeal . I like the look of a well turned ankle, a lithe-looking calf, a well formed derriere, a shapely waist, a well suspended superstructure, a . . . . . . . urk, here comes Mrs T!! Gotta go, or I'll be personally inspecting the afterlife somewhat sooner than I anticipated . Cheers Billy 8-{) :help: |

| 447005 | 2006-04-24 08:25:00 | so, back to religion in politics... does religion belong? i dont think so, you would have to pick one as they are all exclusive, reguardless of whether or not one of them is actually right, which it seems they arent even if there is a god/s/ess/esses. a secular govt seems to be working out just fine, ignoring the fact that most of our politicians have no idea of what they're doing... i was surprised that last election none of the parties promised to lower petrol prices/cut petrol tax, for that surely would have got voters listening (and probably non-voters too lol) although eliminating interest on student loans did seem to work well... |

| 447006 | 2006-04-24 08:53:00 | Imo religion is a bastardisation of spirituality. To define spirituality as the vital principle or animating force within living things would relate to religion, but belief in a devine power I think is the main tenet of religion. |

If the majority of people voted them in, then sure, But your local Preacher has no more say or weight behind his words then your loca drunk . If they wanted to step around the fact they would have to be voted in and just wanted to rule by force, then Im good for that fight, They can have first shot . . . . . |

| 447009 | 2006-04-25 13:14:00 | if He exists why let us hurt one another? sure WE do it, but why not smite us on the spot? Every wise parent lets their kids 'get on with it" . Would you prefer God to control every action you take? Or would you prefer free will? Free will to prosper as well as to stuff up? . . . how are we going to prove/disprove the existence of a being who's only claimed action was that of creation only mentioned in the corrupted bible, which is pretty much completely proved false by bigbang/evolution which DOES HAVE SOLID, PHYSICAL PROOF . Both Big Bang and Evolution are theories . Neither has been PROVEN! FACT! There is an element of faith required in believing either of them . Faith based belief . . . . hmmm . . . isn't that religion??? |
