447322 2006-04-20 11:54:00 as irrelevant as a mine operator in mexico who later admitted he had no idea what he was talking about? Tux (606)
447323 2006-04-20 11:58:00 One more thing, I should point out I have never worked on buildings the size of what fell on Sep 11, Im not trying to suggest I have done that scale demolition, On even the largest jobs we done in Aussie we craned up small excavators and bought the buildings down as rubble. Its a far better system then collapsing a building with explosives. Metla (12)

No idea, That entire line was something I reguritated from what I read at popularmechanics.com an hour or so ago, Muhahahahahaha.

The rest of the post was all mine though

447326 2006-04-20 12:06:00 interms of the argument that the building was imploded and explosives used, i am no engineer, but neither are most of the eye witnesses. they are firemen etc. while it may have sounded like explosives my understanding was that the intense heat and the burning of the material inside, insulation, paper etc, weakened, not melted, weakened the structure of the building that it would fall like a pack of cards, one floor in succession falling ontop of another. have you any idea of the weight of a mass like that? its like the comment that you could rest a car on the roof of another car without breaking its roof, but if you were to drop the car, it would most certainly crush it. go watch videos of controlled demolition. i think you'll notice a stark difference from "i thought it sounded like explosives" to "bang bang bang, in succession up the entire building then collapsing. to be honest, i dont think that a building has collapsed under the circumstances like the wtc before so there really is nothing to compare it to. to me, the popular mechanics report, using REAL PILOTS, REAL ENGINEERS, REAL EXPERTS, EYE WITNESS TESTIMONY is much more feasible than insta-experts. watch roll on 911 and heck, everyone is a civil engineer. no wonder our universities are getting poorer, $20 (or free dvd) and you can understand how a building collapses! i think this is what you are referring to.

"a major study will be released in spring 2005 by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a branch of the U.S. Department of Commerce. NIST shared its initial findings with PM and made its lead researcher available to our team of reporters.

The NIST investigation revealed that plane debris sliced through the utility shafts at the North Tower's core, creating a conduit for burning jet fuel--and fiery destruction throughout the building. "It's very hard to document where the fuel went," says Forman Williams, a NIST adviser and a combustion expert, "but if it's atomized and combustible and gets to an ignition source, it'll go off."

Burning fuel traveling down the elevator shafts would have disrupted the elevator systems and caused extensive damage to the lobbies. NIST heard first-person testimony that "some elevators slammed right down" to the ground floor. "The doors cracked open on the lobby floor and flames came out and people died," says James Quintiere, an engineering professor at the University of Maryland and a NIST adviser. A similar observation was made in the French documentary "9/11," by Jules and Gedeon Naudet. As Jules Naudet entered the North Tower lobby, minutes after the first aircraft struck, he saw victims on fire, a scene he found too horrific to film."

447328 2006-04-20 12:10:00 Im going to have to find some video footage of the WTC7 coming down, and see if I can trace the controled explosions through the building, which should be able to be seen and heard before and during the building collapse. Metla (12)

Nah, that wasn't it, I cant find the source of what else I was reading earlier, It documented how the building (WTC7) was built, which parts where holding the weight, and "undocumented" damage the building sustained that caused the eventual collapse.

Thats the slippery wee bugger I was looking for. The rabbit-in-the hat "working hypothesis" could win every debate in the history of mankind

Anyway,Now that we have won this debate completely and utterly with next to no effort I intend to go whip up a storm in a Dell thread, or better yet....an Apple thread.
