447184 2006-04-18 11:57:00 Love reading novels in a historicaly accurate setting. George MacDonald Fraser's hilarious Flashman series are an all time favourite, along with David Wishart's Roman era stories. Greg (193)
447185 2006-04-18 13:47:00 Try reading "Starfish" then "Maelstrom" in that order, good books if you like modern science fiction:

You can download them as .pdf's here.

447187 2006-04-18 22:01:00 www.bookzone.co.nz is NZ run and while skewed towards SF, does have other genres as well.
I get a lot here now rather than Amazon, especially considering the rubbish exchange rate now.

447188 2006-04-19 02:28:00 I think the Patricia Cornwell books are excellent, particularly if you read them in the order they were written. Personally I gave up on the Kathy Reichs books after reading three.

Michael Connolly - detective fiction - methodical and very good stuff. Harlen Coban, Geoffrey Deaver, Linda Faistein are all good.

Terry Pratchett has written a series of fantasy/satire Discworld books and we have most of them. Funny and clever.

Peter Hamilton and Charles Sheffield write good science fiction. Many people like Stephen Baxter too. My favourite author is Larry Niven.

I quite enjoyed David Wishart as well, waiting for the library here to get some more of his books in

447191 2006-04-19 06:14:00 I enjoy reading books set in NZ...but also other parts of the world. Bill Bryson is always a great bet for an interesting read.

A couple of unusual but excellent books that I spy on my bookshelf and thoroughly enjoyed reading are:

The Honk and Holler Opening Soon - by Billie Letts (whos was a New York Times Bestselling Author) :) :) - leaves you with a warm fuzzy but certainly not oversentimental

A Short History of Tractors In Ukrainian - by Marina Lewycka (a novel in English !!) - great fun :)
