446560 2006-04-16 09:01:00 Generally here in New Zealand we only have one choice for online bookings - Air New Zealand's online system. I would suggest you ask your question on a forum in the US, so that you are more likely to get people who have had a lot of experience with these firms.
We have done a number of bookings with Qantas and no problems ! Both internally within NZ (Auckland to Wellington and back -- plus Auckland to ChCh and back; also from NZ to Aussie; also from one point in Aussie to another(Adelaide to Melbourne). Am therefore bemused by your comment !!

446561 2006-04-18 13:07:00 Thanks Greg and Everyone,

Finally i am geeting somewhere.Apparently for international residents outside US you can make booking and then sort of hold it and then call Local American Airline 0800 number and then give your credit card details over the phone. I will do that later and see if everything was really a cheap option and breeze doing it online.

I found a better deal on the AA website then orbitz or expedia. travelocity was the most expensive.

Oh during reservation on the website i came across picking your seats by clicking on it with a nice little pic of the plane outline...Woww that was exciting for me clicking and choosing seats here and there

Which led me to think and hence to ask if someone here knows, in which part of the plane you have higher chances of survival in the event of Plane Crash!! :-(
Just want to be on the good side of probability.

Believe me i never thought of this before when doing flight bookings but with the
option of selecting you seat visually online, it made my mind tick...Plus the effects of watching LOST

Cheers

Just want to be on the good side of probability. In almost all crashes you will survive longest at the tail. It usually hits the ground last and has all the rest of the plane (and passengers) ahead to crumple and absorb the forces of the sudden stop.

Rear facing seats would help a bit in major crashes. It's a bit hard to walk to an escape door when both your legs have been broken under the seat in front.

But the only way to guarantee survival of a plane crash is not to be on the plane. The ground is hard.

On the good side, there aren't many crashes. Flying in commercial flights is much safer than being a motorist, cyclist, or pedestrian.

446563 2006-04-19 02:09:00 Graham L is right. It is a mite safer at the back, on the other hand if the airline is serving food the back of the aircraft is generally the last to be served and you may have died of starvation before the aircraft crashes! bonzo29 (2348)
446564 2006-04-19 03:10:00 You would think that they would move the first class to the back, that way a better class of person would survive. Cicero (40)

You are in fine form today Cicero.

The back of the aircraft is actually the most uncomfortable in turbulence, the tail waves like a flag. The best compromise is to sit as close to centre as possible.

446567 2006-04-19 04:40:00 For travel originating from NZ, I'd recommend Zuji.co.nz - it's the NZ version of Travelocity. It compares fares across all airlines and lets you book it directly from the website. bonkiebonks (7249)
446568 2006-04-21 02:32:00 Thanks graham, bonzo,

I did end up booking a seat in the tail section.
Fingers crossed i will make it back in one piece.

Just one other question. I plan on taking my NZ Mobile Motorola E398 which is with Vodafone on Prepay . the phone lists as being tri band etc.

Has someone used a prepaid vodafone from NZ in US. Whats the procedure of gettting it changed to use it there. Is it as simple as Swapping NZ SIM with US SIM....do they even have a SIM card

If this phone can be used US, whats the cheapest and quickest way of getting it switched to US phone carrier. Is there a recommended phone company in US.

Also when i get to NZ i just want to pop the SIM back in it and use as before

446569 2006-05-02 20:13:00 It seems you have decided. Anyways no harm in adding some more info :)
I have used this website in recently in the US and as far as I know has no problems in other parts of the world including NZ.
Here is a link www.lessno.com
It has an easy to use search with lots of options. You can specify which part of the plane you prefer for the seat ;).
I too prefer flying in the tail, don't ask me why :) just feels safer at the back.
