695576 2008-08-07 07:14:00 hi there, i am looking to install a graphics card in my computer.

i have this www.pcmag.com 1.3gig ram though.

now i want to install one of these into my PCI-E slot

1 (www.trademe.co.nz)
2 (www.trademe.co.nz)
3 (www.trademe.co.nz)
4 (www.trademe.co.nz)
5 (www.trademe.co.nz)

now if you dont want to look at any of those heres my situation:

i will be buying a gaming rig in late october but i have about $60NZD to upgrade my current PC to last me till then.(just need for warhammer online)

now if someone could please either recommend me which one to buy.(the game dont need DX10 and i dont mind a 256 over 512 if the 256 is better)

now i was told for a graphics card to work i need a power supply with a power rating of 350W but i think mine is only 250W will any of these cards work?

sorry but i tried to find answers elsewhere but i dotn really know where to go except here.

695577 2008-08-07 07:20:00 Graphics cards vary in terms of power consumption. Some need a PSU as low as 100W and some up to 600W. If you only have 250W, I wouldn't advise you to buy anything you've linked.

I suggest you save up now, as any graphics card you buy that fits your 250W PSU would be pointless.

695578 2008-08-07 08:11:00 see i cannot save up now the gaming rig will not come before late october due to the fact i am travelling to vietnam.

what would be a suitable card to buy then as i only need one so i dont need to use my onboard one.

if a graphics card is not suitable then what can i do for a performance upgrade temporarily it dont need to be mega-good just a little bit of boost in graphics is all i need.

695580 2008-08-07 09:16:00 thats my semi-plan because i have $60 that i can invest into graphics and is there no way i can spend it to get even a slight boost in graphics? calebcc (13939)
695581 2008-08-07 09:25:00 I had to put up with my P4 2.53 and Geforce 6800 for 3 years until I could afford what I have now. See sig.

695582 2008-08-07 09:49:00 Well, Trev, a 6800 is not that bad of a card. Onboard, now THAT'S bad.

But seriously Caleb, with only 250W, the best you can get away with is probably an FX5200 or 6200. And they are crap.

695583 2008-08-07 10:53:00 are power supplys easily replaced? like there wont be compat issues bcoz it only supplies power right?

and if i did upgrade to at least a 350W would i be able 2 upgrade to a 6800 or 7900 nvidia card?

this be good? (www.trademe.co.nz)

695584 2008-08-07 22:09:00 this be good? (www.trademe.co.nz)

No, they're rubbish. You can get an AcBel (www.pricespy.co.nz) 350W for about $45 which would be much better quality.

695585 2008-08-07 22:15:00 id agree with the others who say put up with what you have till october. I'd save the money now and when you get your comp, you'd have at least an extra $60 for even -better- graphics. $60 is the difference between a 3870 and 4850.

I'm still using my Athlon 1800+ and GeForce 4200 from 2002!
