| 695534 | 2008-08-07 03:46:00 | A friend dropped his hard drive around last night as it wouldn't boot in his PC . It's an 80GB WD sata drive so i've dropped it into my external case as I still run an IDE system . The drive shows as RAW and unformatted . I've downloaded and run a wonderfull program called test disk and managed to access the drive and recover most of the contents including some absolutely wonderful viruses :horrified . The drive was C and contained one partition & all data however I still can't make it accessable to my system . The drive did contain Goback, the owner says he tried but couldn't recover it that way . Options 1) install the drive back into his SATA system and try test disk again or a recovery with Goback? 2) Reformat the drive and copy the recovered data back onto the drive as C windows & D data 3) Reformat the drive and reinstall windows and copy the recovered files across . I'm assuming I can't recover the MBR etc because I'm using a ext case, as much as test disk will write to the drive and then wants to reboot to make the changes, it's not happening because of the way the drive is installed into my system via the ext case . |
