695116 2008-08-05 21:38:00 What is the S.M.A.R.T. setting in the BIOS? Mine is disabled at present. Should it be enabled? To do what? Richard (739)
695117 2008-08-05 21:43:00 Its for SMART enabled hdd's

It doesnt matter if its enabled (but helps if the hdd supports it), or disabled

It can't hurt to have it enabled.

695119 2008-08-05 21:50:00 Thanks guys, you've satisfied my curiosity. I will give some thought to turning it on. Richard (739)
695120 2008-08-05 22:18:00 Some of these BIOSes have had to be updated because they weren't interpreting some models of HD properly. If you put in a drive the manufacturer didn't use, you may strike this problem. PaulD (232)
695121 2008-08-06 07:09:00 SMART keeps a check on your Hard drive and issues a warning if it thinks that the drive has a problem - time to back up, before it packs up! Can slow booting a little, but worth enabling. mzee (3324)
