449077 2006-04-24 08:15:00 There was a bloke on National Radio's 9 til noon this morning talking about advertisements.
Most of us HATE ads on TV - they interrupt our viewing and mostly they're not relevant to us.
Compare that to the ads on the right pane in Google. They are unobtrusive and if you do notice them, they're targetted at what you're searching for.
Which sort of ad is better value for money for the advertiser?

How can I buy shares in Google?

449078 2006-04-24 08:22:00 I find the media ads as used by Stuff.co.nz to be easily as bad as the ads on television, which is fitting as the crap is usually advertising Television programs.

I simply dont watch TV as I hate being marketed to, and on the same token I block ads on the net, and stay away from certain sites. Their loss, not mine.

As for google ads, I have clicked on 1 or 3, never found them relivant, My own searching will find me what I want, rather then what someone has paid Google to show me. A big marketing budget is in no way related to quality of goods, I would be surprised if a google for gaming computers produced a paid link for Dell.....

449079 2006-04-24 08:40:00 Ah, Metla, my dear old chap.
It sounds like you are one of those self-sufficient souls who need no one else.
But don't judge us all by your very high standards.
Few of us can match your level of intellect and self-reliance.

Anyhow, I personally don't believe the answer to anything is to be found in marketing.

Marketing is good for sparking your interest in something, then you can look into it further & probably buy from someone else .

Marketing certainly has a place in supermarkets - are you never tempted to go somewhere other than your regular supermarket because they have what you want on special this week?

449083 2006-04-24 09:07:00 It would take Satans entire mob of Hell Hounds to drag me into a supermarket, any Supermarket.

Unless I'm after beer and the bottleshop is closed, But during such times I'm immune to bright blue washing powder that has been marked down 9 cents...

Muhahahahaha.
