| 447541 | 2006-04-19 06:21:00 | Anyone have experience connecting a cellphone to a PC via infrared? A data cable for my cellphone costs about the same as a USB infrared add-on (around $50 - 60), but it seems to make sense to use infrared since the data cable would be specific to only one phone. I'd like to back up my Contacts list, and perhaps trasfer music for ringtones, and photos as well. SIM card back up devices are $18 at DSE, but it is only for back up, not read or edit. BTW, my phone does not have Bluetooth. Thanks. |

I have a Sony Ericsson, and there is software available on their web site. My question is about using infrared from phone to computer. |

I sync my Outlook calendar with my phone and backup my phone config with the utility in the PC Suite software that DanielF mentioned. I use it almost daily, it works well. Hope that's helpful. |

| 447546 | 2006-04-19 12:08:00 | Basically you just enable infared on the phone and have it close enough and both transceivers in line of site of one another. In XP a dialog pops up telling you there is an infared device in range and a "send to..." icon is created on the desktop (also available in Send To context menu) - you can then send files to it and receive files from it. There will obviously be a limit to what you can send/receive and you wont know that until you try it out - as above there will be special software specific to your phone for doing special things. :) |

Though, I maybe pushing it a bit, seeing as I have been encoding full length movies and sending them to my phone...... :D |
