447472 2006-04-26 11:52:00 Last night (Anzac Day) on TV 1 at 11.35 PM was a program called "Ten Days to Victory", about the end of WW2 in Europe. An excellent documentary that included interviews with soldiers from Germany, Russian and Canada. A few things that I found of interest:

* Patton's troops could have taken Prague in 24 hours from where he was. Eisenhower deeply regreted his decision not to send Patton there, leaving it for the Russians.

* Montgomery's troops took Denmark, but only just before the Russians got there, about only 6 hours.

* The Russians took Berlin at a cost of 300,000 killed (or casualties, cannot recall which). Allied intelligence warned that the Nazis were going to make a last stand in Bavaria, near or at Hitlers "Eagle Nest". American 101st paratroopers did not need to fire a shot when they secured that area. So much for intel...!
