2006-04-22 06:14:00 | Remember most cameras such as the S5600 may use about 2 mA even when "off" so the batteries will discharge at the rate of up to 50 mAh per day. Applies to my S602 anyway, so I just remove them when not using it for a while. I dont have this problem in my S602 or S9500, and find the batteries last unused for months in the cameras. But it is a known problem with the 602. According to J Kirk of Australia, an experienced Fuji repairer, a freshly charged set of NiMH cells in the S602 should last about 3 months without use. If they go flat in a week or two, there is a camera problem. The OFF current should be < 0.5mA. If it is 2mA, there is a problem. Another known problem can be caused by wear on the contacts in the battery door, causing a short (110ohms) of one battery ( the bottom right one). It is easily fixed. J Kirk describes the problems & the fix on his site here: www.digsys.com.au

2006-04-23 04:54:00 | I went and got some DSE rechargables, and charged them and the difference is is amazing, hadnt noticed how slow the camera had been getting. so will see how well these ones go, for now, and (2000nmph?). this wasnt going to be my next expense in relation to my camera, but to keep it going is the option im most pleased with instead. :illogical so a new mem card will have to wait. beetle

2006-04-23 06:57:00 | My camera only has a low bat warning when i have about 10 mins of use left . . . . . . . . . . . . . . otherwise it doesnt show up . at least not the way i have it set, it may have that option . . . . . . . . so i have not much time to take last pic before camera dies . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . lol and i have 2 sets of rechargables so i always have one set in the camera, and one lot ready to go, always charge the bats the day they go flat, not wanting to be caught with a dead non useable camera . so instead i had dead bats . . . . . . . . . . . . LOL beetle

2006-04-23 09:24:00 | I would ask Met to point out the indicator, can't see the point of one that tells you it flat when it is flat and no more. Honest cameras with NiMH batteries can only tell you when the battery is just about to go "flat". The voltage curve during discharge is much flatter than you'd get with something like a car battery until the very end. Perhaps some try to give some progressive indication but I think they're faking it.

2006-04-23 23:11:00 | Hi C. re your comment.... Pity it doesn't have Image Stabiliser. Here a quote I picked up from a website while considering my purchase, bearing in mind that the 5600 has the Anti-blur setting which allegedly reduces camera shake and moving-subject blurring: "There seems to be a fair amount of confusion about IS and what it really does. In general, IS is useful under two situations. (A) when the optical zoom is at it maximum or full zoom position, and (B) when shooting at very low shutter sppeds. Fuji has taken the approach that they can do without IS if you can raise the ISO settings enough to increase the shutter sppeds being utilized by the digital camera. It works quite well and it is a spin-off of the old photographic axiom that you should always use 1/the effective focal length of the lens in 35mm terms. Thus if you were at 380mm of focal length (equivalent to 10X optical zoom), to prevent camera shake from adversly affecting your photos, you would have to use a shutter speed of AT LEAST 1/380th, or the next highest shutter speed, probably 1/400th to prevent camera shake. From the photo samples that I have seen from the Fuji S-5200/S-5600, the Fuji is going to give the other ultra zooms a run for the money. The sample photos look quite good." Apologies Beetle for half-hijacking your post.
