| 697051 | 2008-08-13 10:31:00 | Hi Guys, Just got a HP/Compac laptop the other day with Vista on it. Very pleased so far. I was just wondering how much you can throw them around while they are going ? Eg can you use them in a car, or pick them up and pass them round a meeting. Ie how much can the hard drives take ? |

| 697054 | 2008-08-13 23:34:00 | The HDs can probably take as much as any other (ie a small drop). Worst advice ever... HD's a pretty robust ONLY WHEN OFF & head is parked Some new Laptops will actually sense when laptop is being moved/knocked & shut down the HD & throw out a warning message. |

I was advised when laptops became popular (years ago eh?) as regarding hard drives, in lap tops or whatever, regard then with the same sensivity of you own brain taken out your skull. How would your brain react if you brain was dropped on the floor?? Like wise hard drives. Almost certainly will not work as you would want ever again. If you are really keen, experiment, but be prepared to buy a new hard drive LOL. I personally treat lap tops as if they were an ordinary thin piece of window glass.
