696737 2008-08-12 06:10:00 Hey guys I recently noticed that my internet speed, which is rated at 256 kbits download and 128 kbits upload, now has a 500Kbytes download speed

I am not complaining! Please don't tell my ISP, just whanted to know why I am getting aussie speeds, or maybe my ISP upgraded to ADSL2+...

696738 2008-08-12 06:14:00 A download is not an accurate measurement of your actual broadband speed.

run some tests at www.speedtest.net, see what you get there.

If you've downloading at 525kb\sec, theoretically you should be getting around 4100kbps-4500kbps to anywhere in NZ.

There are 8 bits in a byte. So if you're downloading at 525 Kb\Sec, thats around 4200kbps. Sounds like your ISP has un-capped your download speed.

KB\Sec = Kilo bytes per second

Kbps = kilo bits per second

696740 2008-08-12 06:24:00 Depending on the time of day and if your ISP has a switch over period, this sometimes happens (to me anyway).

If I have a download in progress just before 7pm, about a minute after 7pm, it kicks up significantly. It doesn't happen all the time though. If I cancel it and start the download again, it is at its normal speed.

696741 2008-08-12 06:35:00 Yes I do, that why I said its superfast, 256 Kbits = around 32Kbytes, which was my average speed 1 month ago. This download is new, I have never downloaded it before, so the download is not cached. SPARTAN 860 (2618)
696742 2008-08-12 12:09:00 Either your ISP just changed your speed or something broke and they haven't noticed yet Agent_24 (57)
696743 2008-08-13 04:42:00 I like that changed speed idea, but it better not come with a change in price. If something is broke, then I hope they don't fix it ;). SPARTAN 860 (2618)
