"Kids' hotel offers childcare around clock ››
Twenty-four-hour childcare has arrived in New Zealand - a"

I didn't think even Aucklanders would sink so low.
If a mother can't look after her kids they should be taken off her. No wonder kids today grow up with no respect for their parents. The poor buggers probably aren't even sure who their parents are.

This hotel sounds like a glorified orphanage. The soone they go broke the better.

450903 2006-04-30 22:18:00 Excuse me,
It takes two to make a kid. Stop blaming the mother for everything.
If fathers did their share maybe there wouldn't be a such a need for childcare.

I agree, they should do it the Rotorua way Jack, just abandon them to roam the streets at all hours to rob tourists, become gang prospects, rapists, drug dealers and murderers.

Rotorua has a more unsavoury reputation than South Auckland and is currently the number 1 breeding ground for gang members with a menu of choices to select from. People in glasshouses shouldn't throw stones.

None of the foregoing should be interpreted to suggest that I approve of the aforesaid child farm, because I don't, but it would offer better care than many parents do, that's for sure. BTW, it is not a residential facility or a de facto orphanage, and is only offering short-term extended child care for parents who may not have any other options.

It is not a lot different to the thousands of daycare facilities operating all over NZ, yes, including Rotorua Jack! Not everybody has partners, family or grandparents available to look after children. Of course if they didn't go out to work no doubt they'd be bludgers in your view, suckling on the government teat.

I am quite sure that at some stage the system will be abused so that selfish parents can take holidays overseas without junior tagging along, but that would be a minority.

I'm an Aucklander and our children only had babysitters twice in their lives for a few hours each time, everywhere else we went, they went with us.

Cheers

450906 2006-04-30 22:45:00 What is so wrong with parents taking a break from childcare for a short time, e.g. for some "private time"? (nudge nudge wink wink) :p :D

Hotel childcare is a great idea and may encourage some parents to go on family holidays more often. Surely if parents dump their children in the hotel childcare for such a long time that it causes distress to their children, it would be a misuse of the hotel service. But for the occasional break, what is the problem?

You sound like one of those woman's lib. people.

A woman's place is in the home. Careing for HER children.

I come from a generation where married women did not work. She stayed home and looked after her family.

450909 2006-05-01 00:19:00 sounds like a very handy service however it could be so easly abused and over used.

mind you is it any worse than those who pay for a full time nanny?

Thats nice. Today however most families can't afford to live on one income.
I stayed home until mine was 5 then worked. I'd love to sit about at home and not have to work. But reality intrudes.......

And just because this place is open 24 hours doesn't mean people will rush to leave kids there for the whole 24 hours, I think the idea is for those that work outside normal work hours, they will be able to get day care when they are working not when the other places say they can.
