449671 2006-04-26 10:47:00 So the kids have gone, the mortgage is no so crippling, why oh why? would you go out and buy a Harley Davidson?? Its as sad as buying a Ford. I watched a Chopper thing on Sky about dressing up these 2 cylinder compressors, what a waste of money!! Anyone have any comments ?? kwaka (10149)
449672 2006-04-26 11:02:00 uh....why not?

Riding motorcycles is fun is it not?

Currently I have a jappa, it likes to power away at 9000 to 11000rpm and does about 240km/h, which is great fun for about 15 minutes and completly useless for any sort of pleasurable ride over any largish distance.

So, its up for sale this week, and I am going to re-invest in a Harley, Its been a decade since I sold my last one.Looking foward to kicking back and rolling on the throttle...

Though Im not middle aged, nor debt free.

I guess what it is for me is the lack of choice in your bike, you can gat a Jap , German, Italian (and a few other countries) bike for just about every type of riding . Most will out-perform out-handle and be more reliable than a Harley, its the name that sells these things .

449674 2006-04-26 11:28:00 You dont like Harleys because they only make crusiers?

Thats like not liking Ferrari because they only make performance orintated cars.

Anyhow, that aside, Harley havent had reliability problems since the Evo motor was brought to market, 20 odd years ago.

The problem with Harleys is that you don't get much for your money, They cost a bundle, Are too slow in stock trim, and they skimp on suspension and brakes, Plenty of negatives to be certain.

449675 2006-04-26 11:30:00 LOL

And here i was thinking that what actually cause's bikes to sell no matter what brand was the bikini clad bimbos......oooops girls that lean all over them? not the actual bike itself?

Harleys need more work to keep shiny dont they?
Where as, plastic fantastic junk doesnt.......

Cant say i want a harley....oh well thats ok i not a guy last i looked.....but a nice new motor bike would be a real nice pressy...... Blue or black....LOL

449676 2006-04-26 11:37:00 Harlys would have one of the biggest range of aftermarket gear out of all the bike manufactors, after all who wants a bog standard Harly.
Me personaly would prefer a bmw, but can only afford jap bikes, so I will settle for anything.
I would think most people are curious about Harlys even if they dont like them.(a bit like a mac  )

449677 2006-04-26 11:44:00 Would you like a Ferrari if they hadnt changed it in 20 odd years? and they wern't that good at their chosen niche in marketing?
The sound of a Ducati 916, TLR 1000, VTR 1000 at full rev is music to my ears, but, like you say, after an afternoon riding with all your weight on your wrists, makes you want to hop on a Vetura or Goldwing. Another plus, I guess, in owning a Harley is you wouldnt get as many speeding tickets.

449678 2006-04-26 11:53:00 You may get fined for excessive Noise tho . . . .

Ducati's seem to be over priced the same as a Harley . . . . :stare:

And winter time is really not great for inspiring one to buy or ride a bike . . . . . .
Air con works much better in a Jeep . . . . . . warmth . . . . not cold, sleety rain . . . . .

But in saying that nothing beats, riding down the highway, on a warm sunny day with no fixed timetable and no place to be . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . and good company on the back . . .

Anyway i not owned a motorbike for years . . . . . main problem i had was if for any reason i dropped the stupid things . . . . . . . i couldnt pick them up . . . . . . .

449679 2006-04-26 12:00:00 uh,,,In the last few years HD have released an entire new range of bikes (the V-ROD) upped the engine across the board from a 1340cc to a 1450, and purchased Buell who produce a sport orintated bike with harly engines .

So yeah, no change in 20 years aye?

That aside, I cant see anything wrong in a stable line up, Whatever works for them and their customers would seem to be fine, I personally don't follow the chain of thought that you should trade your bike on a new one because Suzuki have modified the plastics, changed the airbox placement, applied a grapic kit and labbeled it the RX model . . . . In fact I like the idea that I can go and purchase a Lowrider, a wideglide custom or an FXRS and they share their name and concept with earlier model bikes .

as for speeding tickets, a simple carb adjusment will get an otherwise standard 1340 up to 220KM/h . . . and an aftermarket carb and a nice cam will make a good hard revving engine out of em . . Though its best to do the shocks at the same time, and whack a double disc on the front so you can slow her down .

And nothing in this world would ever make me ride (drive) a Goldwing ever again . . . .

Hey Metla! You forgot to mention the wondrous throbbing feeling you get between your legs when you wind a Harley up......

And then there's the feeling the bike gives you as well.

A Harley isn't just transport, it is a legend and a way of life. Show me any other bike that qualifies for that reputation, except perhaps an old Norton or the like.

Cheers
