450725 2006-05-02 22:31:00 I just want to retract some of my earlier statements:

I have just done a bit of additional research (Wikipedia + www.clerk.parliament.govt.nz):

- NZ currently has about 9000MW of power generation
- NZ relies on natural gas for 21.5% of power generation
- NZ only relies on coal for 7.1% of its power generation
- NZ's electricity consumption is increasing at about 150MW per annum
- The modern nuclear power plants produce between 600-1200MW of electricity each
- Nuclear "waste" can be recycled, where 90-95% of reusable uranium can be recovered. This is currently done in the UK, Japan, and other nations.

However I feel most of my previous statements still stand: One nuclear power station is sufficient to replace all the existing coal stations, and we would require a total of 3 to be able to fully replace all CO2 generating power stations in NZ. However, doing so would produce an electricity surplus of over 1GW.

450727 2006-05-03 13:30:00 I am all for nuclear power as long as its near the main users of the output . A nice little station around Auckland somewhere will give the city enough power taking the need away from building hugs pylons over the country .

Yesterday going through the Nekar Valley in Germany I was looking over a forrested valley, and there in the bottom was a Nuclear power station, quietly steaming away making no noise and only water vapour .

Seems like a good idea to me .

450729 2006-05-03 14:20:00 Having read all of the above,I think we can safely say that nuclear is the way to go,now it's just a question of ordering one. Cicero (40)

Will you order it before or after the S5600?

Good question,I think after,certainly before I get the S602.
