450424 2006-05-01 09:34:00 My house cost me $80 grand. Damn fine house it is as well.

Though the one across the road was on the market at the same time for $72 grand, and now 3 years later it just sold for a spot under $200 grand.

450429 2006-05-01 10:40:00 If Auckland was wiped off the map overnight by some natural disaster, the lives of all in the rest of New Zealand would change dramatically, and not for the better. You would all fall on very hard times indeed. Our nation's economy depends on the consumer, industrial and financial input of the Auckland region, just as we depend on the rest of our countrymen.

What puzzles me Billy is that you are sincere about this statement. And many other Aucklanders believe it too.

In fairness, I quite like Auckland although I don't know it well. Good Kiwis there.

But the belief that it is of value to the NZ economy is cloud cuckooland. For example Southland has 3% of the population but produces 12% of the wealth. Of course that is immediately transferred to Auckland through banks and taxation. :badpc:

450430 2006-05-01 10:43:00 errrrrrrrr........That works out at $18 per day

nnnooooooo.........that works out at $213 per day for a year......

No. Billy meant that if you borrowed $78,000, it would cost you $18/day to service and repay the loan. It actually makes good business sense.

450431 2006-05-01 12:39:00 I prescribe a holiday, Make sure you wave out when you go through Wanganui....
But don't blink as you drive in or you'll be out the other side before your eyes open again.

Seriously Metla, Wanganui is a nice town, I worked there for a period some years ago and enjoyed the stay, but your attitude to Auckland is a bit hysterical. It is a great city to live in, that's why so many of us reside here. That's not to say there are not heaps of other nice towns and cities, and if you read my reply to Jack you will find that I am pretty familiar with many of them.

It's ok to be parochial, but not to the extent that you slag off the city with the largest population in the country and call it a cesspit. That's just being provocative for the sake of it. I've lived in London and spent time in many other cities around the world and NZ, and I wouldn't call any of those places names, they all had their attractions, their charms, and their places you wouldn't want to go back to.

So does Auckland, which is why so many call it home, despite sampling the joys of Wanganui, Rotorua and other places of international fame and notoriety.

450432 2006-05-01 21:27:00 Yay A93 take yr point and Franklin St. is a gem. It's not that I don't like Auckland or its dwellers just that the transport system has been mismanaged for the last 50 years, or so.I used to live in Auckland about 20 years ago. As a just-left school moved-up-from-Gore unemployed person on a training scheme, I found the ARA buses to be a most effective way of getting round Auckland (Browns Bay, then Sunnynook to Takapuna or Glen Eden). Funny thing is, everyone even back then would complain about the traffic, yet the buses were never full Myth (110)

I guess this theory is that as it has a 1/3 of the population a lot of crops and stuff wouldn't be purchased by them anymore. Cause its not like NZ manufacturers anything anymore.
Auckland is full of call centres too, so the phone would be answered for a while....
Um, what else?
