2006-04-30 05:13:00 | Met. we must all work towards reducing populations then............... that would solve a lot of problems.............but how???????? Well, call me an optimist, But I believe the die-back scenario is our best chance. Its natures way of righting the balance.

2006-04-30 05:22:00 | Suppose all objections cease and it is decided to build a nuclear power plant in NZ. Where would you site it? It would have to be in the North Island and reasonable close to Auckland | Dally (6292) | |
2006-04-30 05:23:00 | Cicero: That is true, however the Windscale/Sellafield disasters show the dangers involved, and the handling - storage - processing factors are still problem areas. Then, another aspect not mentioned in this thread yet is "nuclear proliferation", would you be happy with Iran/Iraq/Palestine/Sudan/Ethiopia/Nigeria/...... all having their own nuclear plants??? Met. we must all work towards reducing populations then............... that would solve a lot of problems.............but how???????? As the Palestinians/Sudanese/Etheopians/Nigerians don't seem to do anything but blow themselves up,they don't need any more power. I would hate to meet Met on one of his pessimistic days.

2006-04-30 06:55:00 | B Suppose all objections cease and it is decided to build a nuclear power plant in NZ. Where would you site it? It would have to be in the North Island and reasonable close to Auckland Based on my limited geological knowledge, Northland seems to be reasonably free of volcanoes and isn't smack-bang on a faultline. It's sufficiently close to Auckland, and is close enough to a major port to transport nuclear waste to Australia for storage.

2006-04-30 07:53:00 | Only the end, the nuclear blast is not reality, and the beginning, which is meant to show lifeforms appearing out of the mud after a lightning strike. The middle bits are mankinds' achievements, limited and dated; the failure of art, love and science to satisfy one; the eco-system going down a black hole because of our abuse; and the ape/man trying to escape the disaster by fantasising and turning into a butterfly, but being sucked into the vortex because we are inextricably linked. This is set in the correct background, space and the Universe, with the stars all around. The green platform is to show the time limit of dominance of any species on Earth, eg dinosaurs for instance. What parts did I get wrong?
