450577 2007-07-08 09:53:00 For asian - steamed blue cod and white chop chicken - like chicken soaked gently in this stock and then taken out just right and chopped up .. with a ginger spring onion oil sauce .. Stir fry beef with bitter melon - not sure what they really called. Home style soup using those asian soup ingredients (dry).

Never been a dessert person or an entree person ..

Chinese translation is 'Foo Gwa' with a literal meaning of Bitter melon .

Chickens easy enough .
Boil for ten mins, simmer for twenty and then turn off and leave for thirty to fourty mins in the water .

Uuugghh. I hate bitter melon. Although, bitter melon in New Zealand is far less bitter than those my mom buys back in Indonesia. God, they were bitter, awful things. She loves it though.

Mind you, I don't eat it. Can't stand that. That and baked beans. :yuck:

450582 2007-07-08 13:37:00 Potatoe salad - But the island way, they call it something else but i can never remember. It has beetroot and made with homemade mayo and is the nicest potatoe salad youll ever taste. That and chop suey, excellent after a hard night on the turps! rob_on_guitar (4196)
450583 2007-07-08 19:29:00 Foreign foods, kinda impartial to chinese (that you buy as fast food, unsure whether its genuine or just westernised slush but I still like it) and mexican (used to be a place in Matamata that prepped the food, all you had to do was take it home, heat and eat. Yummmmmm). Haven't seen anything similar over this ways Myth (110)
450584 2007-07-08 20:45:00 One of my most favorite is linguine with white clam sauce, using fresh whole clams in the shell . . . side of Romano and lemon-dipped asparagus from the barbecue, cheap Italian wine, garlic/olive oil soaked baguette and my homemade cream puffs with French vanilla cream filling with thick-dark cappuccino royale for desert . I make everything from scratch, like everything below too .

Last week I made eggplant Parmesan drooling with fresh oregano and olive oil and sheets of melted ricotta and mozzarella cheese, tossed endive and fresh spinach salad with my own Caesar dressing, thick creamy split pea soup with garlic croûtons floating on the surface after a hand cut platter full of antipasto with cheeses, sliced meats and Greek and Italian olives, artichoke hearts, miniature corn and LeSeur peas . Dessert is hot angel food cake with strawberries and fresh whipped cream in the center .

Tonight I cook poached cod (NOT TO A BOIL! in water with vinegar and then in salted water, drained) served with drawn butter with garlic and parsley; alongside grilled corn fritters and egg-dipped fried French bread with a tossed salad with feta cheese and garlic/oil dressing . Add Neapolitan ice cream and hot espresso coffee topped with whipped cream and nutmeg for dessert .

Last night we had Mexican chili rellenos, shredded beef enchiladas, refried beans, Negro-Modello beer, hot flour tortillas with melted butter, fresh salsa with cilantro and hand ground Serrano chilies and crushed tomatoes from our garden . Desert was Mexican flan and coffee ala mode using butternut ice cream .

I like to cook a lot .

Since coming to NZ 7 years ago, I say pie is also a favourite. Not the damn big commercial pies like Irvines, they hardly have meat - instead they put in the trimmings of meat. Uuugghh.

A good pie in my book must have a good amount of filling consisting of steak, mushrooms, onions, tomato and thick gravy. Maybe some cheese.
