450297 2006-04-29 08:41:00 Hi Win. Whatever you look at, check it out on pricespy NZ The mentioned Z1 has a price range of several hundred dollars for variations. When I bought a Fuji some months ago I got it through a local pricespy contact who wasn't even in the yellow pages and for probably a hundred dollars below local retail.
I note that pricespy flags the Minolta as no longer listed by their contacts.

450298 2006-04-29 08:46:00 Thanks team . Unfortunately Tom, I can't find a S602 anymore . :D

Price? Up to $500 . I'd spend more on a good quality camera for normal pics .

Having said that, I recall that Godfather and others have commented they end up using their small go-anywhere cameras more than the big serious brick .

Went into Dick Smith today . Lots of small cams . The choice has grown since I last looked .

One reservation - none of them have protection for the lcd screens which are bound to scratch in a pocket, bag, glove box etc . Any thoughts?
Please note 001,I said not to buy,due their bulk .
Must say the Z1 looks good for pocket job .

Yes that is true Winston, but no problem. Would you believe that I have kept the little compacts in a sock! haha.. Well I cut the foot part off a very thick soft sock, and slip the Z1 into that. The camera comes with a wrist strap, and so it's easy to draw the camera out of the sock for fast shooting!

Works perfectly for placing the camera in pockets or other places. Used that method for several years, without any problems to the LCD screen.

Scouse has a good point. I got the Z1 much less than RRP, as there is now a more expensive Z2, (but it's not much different.)

Would the camera overheat in the glovebox ? (unless you live in Invercargill ! )

450303 2006-04-30 05:15:00 I use a Nikon Coolpix 3200 for my "small" camera, its superceded now by the 4200 I think. Mine cost $190 (end of line demo model) so it was a snip, goes well on 2 x AA Alkalines (good for travel) but also came with NiMh rechargeables and a nice wee charger. DSE have them within your price range. Get a 512 MB card and you are away.
(They have internal memory as well, which has been a boon when I left the card at home...)

3 x zoom (optical) and several preset modes for convenient "point and shoot".

Jaycar sell a perfect sized "hard case" that does not increase the bulk too much.

I might point out that I don't use panty hose,so can't help there.

450305 2006-04-30 06:15:00 Hi C. Nothing personal here. I just recalled that you didn't have a camera or a backpack either but you offered to lend them out in the recent past. Have a nice day. Scouse (83)

It's like this S,if I said I would lend and it had been required then I would have got kit immediately.I have a habit of sticking by my word.
You have a nice evening S.
