450287 2006-04-28 11:59:00 Naturally one digital camera isn't enough so I've been pondering getting a small one to carry around. The Canon A70 is good but not small.

One of these days I'll upgrade to a 12x zoom model like the Fuji 5000something but I'm waiting for Tom to mke the big move and fill us in first.

So - any thoughts regarding a 3 - 4mp small camera?

450290 2006-04-28 22:02:00 I have a Casio EX-Z500 which is an exceptionally good, small camera. 5MP,3x Opticla Zoom, very very long battery life (rated at 500 shots - I've constantly achieved at least 400 shots on one charge, where I'm running out of memory space before I run out of battery). I think DSE or Harvey Norman had it on special a while ago at around $450ish.

The best thing I like about it is it's size - I can have it in my pocket and carry it around easily, or the optional carry case I purchased for it (about $20) has a belt-hook to carry it quite easily with me whenever I go somewhere.

To always have one to hand would be really great. Most of us, I think, tend only to take them on trips, to functions such as weddings etc - but sometimes there are great opportunities that are not foreseen. It has always been my thought to have one in the car because then it is almost always available. Understand however that there is a big danger of it getting overheated at times, say in the glovebox, and then ruined.

Were you planning to always keep in your pocket perhaps ? Am interested because would like to hear of other people's thoughts and experiences on the subject.
cheers

450295 2006-04-29 05:40:00 You are correct Winston, One digital camera is'nt enough.

In addition to my larger Fuji's, I have had two very compact cameras, for the reasons you mention.

The first was a Minolta X20. Very compact, with non protruding lens. 2 MP, 3x opt zoom, 2 AA cells. It was excellent, but is now a discontinued model.

More recently I replaced it with yet another Fuji. The Fuji Z1. Also very compact, 5 MP, 3x opt zoom. Size is 90 x 55 x 19mm, lens non protruding. LCD screen is 2.5" Fits in the pocket fine.

450296 2006-04-29 07:58:00 Thanks team . Unfortunately Tom, I can't find a S602 anymore . :D

Price? Up to $500 . I'd spend more on a good quality camera for normal pics .

Having said that, I recall that Godfather and others have commented they end up using their small go-anywhere cameras more than the big serious brick .

Went into Dick Smith today . Lots of small cams . The choice has grown since I last looked .

One reservation - none of them have protection for the lcd screens which are bound to scratch in a pocket, bag, glovebox etc . Any thoughts?
