449905 2006-04-27 04:44:00 When I see holidays advertised for $999 for 4 or 5 days, I think that is not enough.

How many people take just the holiday package and how many add extra days, etc.

At that price seems you might mean an overseas holiday. 4-5 days is a short time to get the full benefit - but then it might be a once only chance. In general I would personally prefer to use the short time to experience something really worthwhile in NZ instead, then the extra money over and beyond accommodation would be handy to splash out. Each circumstance is different however and I don't think there are any clear answers that will suit everybody.
One person might for instance go to Melbourne to see a show or performer as a once in a lifetime experience and that is very valid.

What is your situation - that is what you need to share to get feedback that might help your quest ;)

449908 2006-04-27 23:12:00 I always see the packages advertised, but when I go to the travel agent it is not what we expect. i.e. the hotel is second-grade, the length of the trip is short. So instead of paying $999 each, we end up paying closer to $1,500 or $2,000 to get what we really want. KiwiTT_NZ (233)

Never had a package holiday ever. Never even look at such things. Even if we could afford to, I doubt I'd want some package thing anyway. Too reminiscent of flitting around 9000 places spending 10 minutes in each....
