So basically hard drive is no good I dont have the windows xp disk to repair it but it has a legal COA sticker.
What I have done is take the hard drive from old computer( after throwing on the trailer as rubbish) and fitted it to new computer.
I have cd for this hard drive.
I cant access the bios to get it to boot from cd
It has an intel celeron motherboard i have tried every f key and delete key.
There is no setup screen on boot just a half second blue intel splash page.
The computer is 2ghz intel celeron
thanks

697596 2008-08-16 04:17:00 Thanks Speedy it was intel and their website said f2 but it has to pushed at the right time.
Got xp installed and validated on computer but cant connect to network.
I suppose it because there are no drivers on the new harddrive the computer dosent have any cards in the slot like my old one
Are they combined with the mother board how do I get driver for mother board its an Intel desktop board
Thanks

697597 2008-08-16 04:20:00 If you've got the mobo cd the drivers should be on it.

You'll need the chipset/sound/LAN drivers.

The sound/LAN are probably onboard.

697598 2008-08-16 05:18:00 I dont have the cd for the motherboard drivers the number on the intel motherboard is D865GLC I went to intel site got drivers but how do i install them I went to control panel, system, hardware but the drivers are shown for motherboard of old computer I think.
On device manager there are 3 yellow marks on other devices when clicked they say unknown device PCI bus.
Which thing on the device manager do I try to load drivers.
thanks

How you come to that conclusion I don't know.
Avast is a better product than AVG anyway.
How about just taking Avast out manually to solve the problem instead of going of and doing completely drastic things?

If the files you downloaded are zipped unzip them first, and if they've got exe files (like setup.exe), in them, double click on them to install whatever driver

If you put the old hdd into this new system (without formatting it), thats right it'll have the old mobo hardware in device manager. You'll have to reformat this hdd and reinstall everything back onto it

BUT, if the CD you've got now, (I take it, it was to restore the old system)? it will expect to see the old system / hardware.

Otherwise, you may not be able to activate it after

697603 2008-08-16 08:25:00 Use this to remove Avast (www.avast.com)

Remember to use it in safe mode, and make sure you select the right folder. As it says it'll delete the whole folder
