697458 2008-08-15 03:26:00 My system crashed last week and I had to do a complete reformat of my system. I was able to boot up an older hd I had lying around and get all my
files transfered to that drive before reformatting. The reformat was successful
and had no problems. I transfered everything back to the main hd and the night before last when I went to boot up my computer it said that it could not boot windows because windows\system32\config\system file was missing so I once again booted up the other hd and went online to see what I could find out about this error, tried all the ways to fix it that I could to no avail. So once again I reformatted the hd. Each time after the reformatting there was a different error. Now the last time if finally reformatted and installed windows XP in what seemed like no problem at all. Well now I can't click on anything without an error popping up. I was able to use the MSN browser to get online
if I click on anything else I get 1 of 2 errors windows explorer has encountered a problem or Internet Explorere has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I have a Dell Optiplex GX100 running Windows XP Pro SP1
with a 250GB Western Digital Hard Drive
256MB Ram

I was able to install Hijack This and here is the log from that scan

697459 2008-08-15 03:30:00 WHAT did you transfer??

Just docs and email addresses etc?? If theyre programs you should reinstall them, after you reformat

That log is too short, post the full log

I would update to SP2 or 3. SP1 is too old

697460 2008-08-15 03:34:00 It won't let me install anything else every time I try I get either the Windows Explorer or and Internet Explorer Error. Before all this happened I had SP 2 and was installing 3
I also use Firefox 3 browser. That is all that was in the log. This is the first time I have ever used Hijack This I click the Do a system scan and create a log file and that is what it gave me.

697461 2008-08-15 03:36:00 Welcome to PF1 Dragonfly, that log looks a little short - are you sure thats the full log ?? Rerun Hijackthis.

Also download memtest (http://www.memtest86.com/) click download on the left - the one you want is the ISO Image zipped file. unzip it and using ISO program in your burning software burn the Image and boot from the CD, let it run through at least twice, any errors will show in red, if it doesn't show any red, then the memory should be OK. Mind you 256 is a bit low for XP to perform correctly.

What files did you transfer across ??

697462 2008-08-15 04:35:00 Ok here goes...lol The 250GB hard drive is the one that is malfunctioning and the one that I use. when it went kapoot I was able to boot into windows using
an 80GB hard drive, I transfered all my files to the 80gb from the 250gb. music, pictures, text files, you get the picture. Then after several failed attempts at reformatting my drive; it seemed that it had finally decided to cooperate and appeared that everything was working normal. Until I clicked on start then control panel to make a little change in the mouse operations. Instead of opening CP I got Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconveience. I have clicked both Send Error Report and Don't Send and no matter what the only thing that happens is the desktop icons disappear for a moment then return. During which time I can't do anything. This happens when I click on any folder, CP, My Docs, My Music, etc. When I tried to click on IE to bring up a browser same thing only instead of it saying Windows Explorer it said Internet Explorer. At that time I had not yet transfered any files back to the 250GB Hard Drive as I wanted to make sure everything was in working order. I was able to get online using the MSN Browser and installed Firefox 3 which is what I use anyway. Then I hooked back up the 80BG and transfered over HiJack This and Incredimail both of which installed but in order to get them to install I had to click start/run then navigate to the file. I have now transfered over some more programs and have gotten them installed the same way because if I click on them I get that dang error. The programs that are now installed are Incredimail, HiJack This, Ad-Ware, IsoBuster, Arachnophila, PcBug Doctor, Power ISO, Registry Fix, XP Medic, Paint Shop Pro, Firefox, and PSP Thumbnail Handler. I can't Nero, McAfee, or some other programs on because its also not running the autoplay on my discs and I can't get to them from the start panel.

As for the Hijack this log that is all it gives me and I copy and past the whole thing.

I know 256 is low but I have been running my XP with that since 2002 with no serious problems at all. (not meaning to sound like a smart butt)

here is the Hijackthis log after I installed all those programs

697463 2008-08-15 04:52:00 Looks like theres something wrong with your system, or the programs you installed. Since none of them appear in this log

When that error appears again click on the link in it. Does it show the name of a file?? That maybe crashing it

When you say you transferred hijackthis etc, you did copy the exe file, then install them didnt you??

You didnt copy the folder the program was installed into, on the old hdd?

I would reformat again / reinstall Windows, before you do this, download SP2, or 3. And install one of them after

697464 2008-08-15 05:05:00 Somethings not right - as Speedy said the programs should be showin in the Hijack log.

Download Ccleaner from my sig, install it - then open and on the left click on Tools, uninstall - see if the programs are showing there.

This may be going off on a tangent, but you could also be introducing the problem ---PcBug Doctor, Registry Fix, XP Medic --- Listed as being installed - ALL registry fix/cleaning programs - NOT NEEDED. Sometmes those programs cause more damage than good.

Your Hard Drive could also be failing esp when you mention
Then after several failed attempts at reformatting my drive; it seemed that it had finally decided to cooperate and appeared that everything was working normal

697466 2008-08-15 05:17:00 Have you UPDATED (As in XP updates) since IE 6 SP1 or XP SP1?? Speedy Gonzales (78)
697467 2008-08-15 05:33:00 Ok I installed the Ccleaner and clicked on tools/uninstall all my programs are listed.

The only reason I have had sll those programs listed is because I have a stupid nephew that feels the need to come and use my computer and go to porn sites
and then I would be left with all kinds of crap popping up on my computer and it would take different programs to get rid of it all. But seeing as how he is not allowed on my pc anymore...I can get rid of some of those I guess I just kept installing them out of habit.

The first thing that happened was when I turned on the computer it went through its normal stuff but instead of booting windows I got a windows could not start because windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt. so I went on another computer and googled that. found a couple different "fixes" tried them when they didn't work I went for the reformat option. The first time everything went normal until it tried to boot windows then I got the same message only a different file name this time it was a nosknl file name. 3 more attempts at reformatting then got it to boot but kept getting tons of
rundll32.exe-unable to locate componet
this application failed to start because framdyn.dll was not found Re-Installing this application may fix the problem. Attempted to repair the windows installation and got the errors I have now.
