697235 2008-08-14 09:09:00 I've recently built a new system with these specs:

AMD Athlon X2 5000+ AM2
Gigabyte MA78GM-S2H
4GB GSKill DDR2-800
Nvidia 8600GT
XP Pro x64

Heres the problem:

I don't seem to be able to get the system to shutdown fully . When it powers down it is still supplying power to USB and PS2 devices .

I have gone though the BIOS power management section and I believe set things correctly and even incorrectly .

Heres the settings:

ACPI Susped Type: S3
Soft-Off by Power button: Instant off
USB wake up from S3: Disabled
Modem Ring Resume: Disabled
PME Event Wake Up: Disabled
HPEY Support: Disabled
Power on by mouse: Disabled
Power on by keyboard: Disabled
AC Back function: Soft-Off
Power-On by Alarm: Disabled

If anybodies got any idea on how I can set this so I can get some sleep at night it would be much appreciated .

Thanks

697236 2008-08-14 09:12:00 Turn it off at the wall then on again??

Mine supplies power to USB when powered off (not sure about PS2) - and I'm not sure how to disable it. But I switch mine off at the wall each night anyway, so it's not really an issue for me.

Would rather not if there was another way.

697238 2008-08-14 09:52:00 USB is usually on (like a mouse), when you shut a system down

You may have to change a jumper somewhere on the mobo, to disable it

697239 2008-08-14 12:23:00 The PSU supplies power to the motherboard anyway so its no different. Turn it off at the wall or switch it off on the PSU. trinsic (6945)
697240 2008-08-14 19:54:00 The previous couple of builds I've done there was an option in the bios to disable sending power to usb after shutdown. I can understand the USB power but does PS2 normally still recieve power also? stormdragon (6013)
697241 2008-08-14 20:53:00 There are probably jumpers for both of them on the mobo .

That you'll have to switch to disable them

Look in the manual

697242 2008-08-14 21:17:00 It will only be a 5v power on the USB anyway....I wouldnt worry...... SolMiester (139)
697243 2008-08-14 21:52:00 Speedy according to the manual no jumper exists but will check the physical board later.

Solmiester its not really power consumption that I care about its just i've modded this case/system with a whole lot of LED's etc running off USB power.

697244 2008-08-15 02:09:00 The only way to turn off USB standby power is with BIOS settings or Jumpers.

If your board has neither of those then you just can't do it.

Why not tap the 5v for your LEDs off the 5v rail for the drives? That way they will only be on when the PC is actually running
