| 452720 | 2006-05-06 09:24:00 | I have a Canon Pixma ip1000 printer that has stopped working about 1 month after the 12 month warranty has expired. I took it back to Warehouse Stationery where i purchased it and was told that as it's warranty had expired they were unable to repair or replace it at no cost to me. Is there any action I can take under the Consumer Guarantees Act to do anything about this? If so, what is the best course of action to take? Is it best to try to deal with the retailer or the manufacturer? Thanks. |

| 452725 | 2006-05-06 12:23:00 | The warranty period has nothing to do with the CGA. Just over one year, is not a reasonable lifespan even for a printer. You will have to stick to your guns, but this should be easily won in the disputes tribunal. Some guy in the nz.comp newsgroups does this a great deal, it might not make any friends, but he gets the desired result. You deal with the retailer in these cases. |

| 452726 | 2006-05-06 20:12:00 | lol sounds like the HP photo printer I brought a few years ago. Just over a year, and the damn screen goes wonky on it, and decides to bring up gibberish characters. I had only printed like 3-4 photos on it. (Altho it still works, when u put a memory card in it, u just dont know what its saying on the screen). This was around $330-350 then. And it looks like this was a common prob with this kind of printer. And the only thing HP said was, I could either get it fixed, or a buy a $150 one. |

If you read the CGA you well find when you buy something from a shop and it fails within a reasonable time even outside the warranty period you have entered into a contract between you and the shop not the manufacturer. It is the shop that deals with the manufacturer and if they don't play ball thats not your problem. Trevor :) |
