Congratulations to Ihug-Orcon-Slingshot and other ISP's,it is now your time to shine in our democratic society . Douglas Webb had the oportunity to unbundle in 2004, but as N . Z's biggest "muppet" this was never going to happen . The guilt was to strong for Helen Clark AKA: "Goat Features",and the Govt has finally Unbundled the Local Loop . :)

An Atomic bomb gracefully landed on Telecom Headquarters with both the Australian and N . Z Telecom shares being punished into submission . :D

The "fat bloated greed leeches" have detached from the monolopy host, and all the wealthy local/overseas investers are running for the hills with there cash in hand . Run like hell you buggers!!

Bring on 24 mbps down - 1 . 3 mbps up unlimited for $69 . 95 per mth . Be Unlimited in the U . K has similar plan thanks to LLU of British Telecom .

Yes! we have to wait untill 2007,but no longer do we need to pay for a $40 phone connection with Telecom . You just pay for your ISP Broadband Plan and run Skype VOIP or similar to phone friends and family .

I'm thrilled to be free of Telecom forever!! . :D :D

And if you so much as throttle the Southern Cross cable and/or throttle national backhaul capacity, you'll be sent back to pre-school where you'll be read, "big bad wolf" storys! .

Message for Telecom: Suffer in Hell!!!

452558 2006-05-06 07:10:00 It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Cicero (40)
452559 2006-05-06 08:15:00 Well this has to be one of the least informed posts I've read in a while.

Telecom unbundling isn't going to see the sweeping changes you think. We're still a dispersely populated island country.

It's still hard to connect people, and international transit still comes at a high premium.

Don't expect any huge differences any time soon.

452560 2006-05-06 08:37:00 IN the words of our Rachel

It won't happen over night but it will happen.

Under Telecom in 2007 we would still be on ASDL. I bet you, that we will start to see ASDL+2 coming in say some time next year. And I am convinced that Telecom themselves will see the need to invest decently in their network so that they can stay ahead of the competition.

Telecom New Zealand plans to start the roll out of ADSL2+ in June 2006, laying the platform for the delivery of Next Generation Broadband (NGB) services in the following months.

General Manager Wired Matt Crockett said the next phase of services were part of the multi-year $1.4 billion transformation of Telecom’s network.

“Telecom has partnered with Alcatel to put this substantial new telecommunications infrastructure foundation in place, taking business and consumer broadband services to the next level,” Matt Crockett said

The NGB services to be introduced to parts of New Zealand this year include high speed broadband services designed to deliver peak download speeds of up to 24Mbps subject to location of customers.

With this infrastructure in place Telecom will be able to offer home based video calling with dedicated handsets and a broadband Internet Protocol (IP) television trial that builds on the in–house trial of IP TV now being conducted among some Telecom staff.

Matt Crockett said these mass market services would complement the high bandwidth broadband offers now available to larger business customers, including One Office which offers broadband connections with speeds of up to 1000Mbps.

A wider transformation of Telecom’s network is underway, and with the infrastructure provided by an all IP network the operator is set to start moving customers onto Next Generation Voice IP services from early 2007.

Sometime I will make the leap from dialup to broadband. Should I wait a month or two to get ADSL2+ or will this be for only the mega-buck-mega-gig-plans and not low-end users like myself? I would not want to be stuck with a 12 month contract and an 'old' ADSL modem if ADSL2+ is going to be the way to go.

452564 2006-05-07 00:15:00 The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. it is the source of all telecommunication. he to whom this truth is a stranger, who can no longer appreciate Telecom and their wonder and stand rapt in awe is as good as dead; his eyes are closed. Cicero (40)
