In their Tuesday and Friday editions they run a IT section called @Connect. And just about every week for the last 2 years, Peter has run an article on NZ's poor broadband service, or Telecoms antics etc, and how we are being held back. I'll second that ! He has been consistently writing such articles. Good man !! Misty  |

| 451696 | 2006-05-05 04:41:00 | Forgetting all of the technical arguments for a moment, the whole point is that now NZ will be able to move forward if Telecom is now offering us 3.5 mbs service, Australia is now getting 10 mbs but the UK and Europe are now getting 24 ! The whole point was the Telecom were not investing much in the network because they did not have to. Those Telecom supporting Luddites will no doubt opt to stay on 56K dial up or 2 mbs broadband for the next 10 years. Regards Digby No lets not forget the technical. The technical is what makes it work - or not. Other countries with nice fast broadband have the advatge (to the company) of a LOT of people in a small geographic area. Unlike NZ that has lots of empty space populated by few people, with the exception of the 3 main cities. I'lll just wait and see who is going to spend all this money for a very slow return on their expenses.... |

| 451700 | 2006-05-05 05:44:00 | CAMPBELL LIVE: Telecom Boss Responds to Share Plunge ... You gotta watch this ... www.tv3.co.nz :) I saw that last night and just briefly again. She was obviously disturbed. She needs to learn how to speak without coming out with "Bushisms" :) eg unbundling will "disincent us", whoever heard of the word disincent?? Then just before that, good news for those that live in rural areas, you can get subsidised DSL for 30 bucks. I thought she was pathetic! |

A reaction not to be unexpected in her situation, but then what does she expect. There's a good chance the rural pot will be sweetend to get investment in to that area, Orcon has already said they're going to target the rural market, have they guessed/know something? What's Probe II when it's at home, anyone know the ins and outs? |

| 451703 | 2006-05-05 09:42:00 | That's funny because though I am no Telecom fan I thought she came across pretty well. She seemed frank and certainly articulate (well OK that could mean just produce a lot of words) but a lot of what she said has also been said here, about this revolution being not all clear cut becasue of the expense of infrastructure and the "cherry picking" that will go on the folly of repesenting Telecom as the big baddy making $$$$$ whereas all the new ISPs really want to help us dialup dinosaurs out in the wop wops. | mark c (247) | ||
| 451704 | 2006-05-05 09:59:00 | Well, for someone who is paid around two million dollars, she needs to take elocution lessons, and polish her voice a bit so people from elsewhere in the world will be able to understand her. What went through my mind was..... "The lady doth protest too much, methinks." (Hamlet) |
