| 453059 | 2006-05-08 07:57:00 | I have this theory that we are witnessing evolution in reverse of the human race. As the world becomes progressively overpopulated, so it seems we are breeding ever more sub-humans, sub-creatures, not necessarily related to any one race. It seems to be a world wide phenomenon, I used to think it was a madness virus that was going around, maybe it still is, but reverse evolution is my current thinking. I leave it as an excercise to readers to propose ultimate solutions for removal of such creatures pressf1.pcworld.co.nz It just have something to do with the breakdown of the Family in general, availablity of drugs, lack of moral values, Womens Lib so that Men can't be Men any more, political correctness, Family Court issues, News Media in that we now have instant access to a slanted version of new depending on where you get it, various cultures and religions and etc. Probably we should have a licence to breed as human beings rather than microchipping dogs. I have never hit my Wife ever and I was brought up never to do that under any provocation. As to the solution I would put all wife beaters, child killers, murderers and other scum on a remote island and drop quite a few seed potatoes, other veges, a few sheep cows and pigs and tell them to get on with it. Back in 20 years to pick up survivors if any. I'm sure Keith Locke would have something to say about that! |

There are many many confounders around the world to make the dependence on socialist/moneytarianism/capitalism/fascism/blahblahblahism wholly unjustified. It is our culture - New Zealanders, especially (but not exclusively) males find violence and aggression to be quite normal and therefore acceptable. | vinref (6194) | ||

| 453062 | 2006-05-08 09:43:00 | Culture arises from the political condition over time,so that is where change must come from. I don't agree. Culture arises over a much longer time than a political condition. A few thousand years in some cases. In NZ and most Western countries, the political condition can change every 3 - 4 years with elections. NZ men have always abused their wives/partners/daughters/sisters/other women. From the great 60's and 70's when everyone wanted our sheep/beef/wool/apples etc, to the sad, bad days of high unemployment. I doubt the current statistic supplied by the Women's Refuge is outstanding if you look at them all. Sad, but I do reckon it has always been that way... |

It seems to be a world wide phenomenon, I used to think it was a madness virus that was going around, maybe it still is, but reverse evolution is my current thinking. If you look back in history, things have been much much worse. I take it you must remember the European wars, the Depression, the Civil Rights Movements, Communism...and that's just the 20th century. You must be reminiscing about 10,000 (or whenever the Christian say) years ago when Adam and Eve were walking around Eden. But I bet that serpent was up to plenty no-good, but there was no media, special interest organisation, or government agency to report the statistics. I leave it as an excercise to readers to propose ultimate solutions for removal of such creatures :stare: Ultimate Solutions? Poor choice of words I take it. But anyway, nothing like good ol' education and intergration for efficacy I reckon. |

| 453065 | 2006-05-09 02:53:00 | "Women's Refuge is struggling to meet demand from an extra 3000 battered women . " LINK ( . stuff . co . nz/stuff/0,2106,3660736a10,00 . html" target="_blank">www . stuff . co . nz) Even one, is one too many ! These have to be the real problems we need to be trying to solve Amen to that . North and South magazine have been running stories about family violence and especially the damage to children over the past 5 years . Strangely enough the Labour government hasn't come out with a strong active stance . In fact the only attempt to address such matters was by Jenny Shipley years ago when she tried to survey the whole of NZ for our attitudes and ideas . She was castigated for this - God knows why, and it just disappeared . Education at primary school level is the only long-term answer . Even then it's difficult . Teach kids that abusive language and assault are wrong but for a few its normal behaviour at home . Damned hard to get past that . |

| 453066 | 2006-05-09 02:57:00 | Terry, I'm shocked . "evolution in reverse"? Evolution makes no assumptions of desirable outcomes . It does not predict a monotonic "improvement" of lifeforms, culminating in the perfect human . Natural selection means that (random) genetic changes which conduce to success in the current environment will tend to be carried on in successive generations . Changes which do not help survival or wellbeing in the current environment will tend not to be carried on, because the individuals will be less successful at breeding . It's that simple . Evolution doesn't decide what is "good" . It's concerned with survival . That's why bacteria will continue to be around when humans are extinct . They can "evolve" in hours . If the market religion encourages greed and violence, it will reward individuals who behave like that . They may or may not breed more successfully than others . I don't know if there are genes which influence the propensity for greed and violence; if there are, evolution makes no judgement: natural selection rules . |
