452730	2006-05-07 02:17:00	The CGA means that you bought the item with reasonable expectation that it would work for a reasonable amount of time and it hasn't, you have the right to a replacement. This is why the CGA exists. Take it to "Fair Go" if the shop doesn't play ball and let the shop know that is what you intend to do.	zqwerty (97)

You are so horribly and terribly wrong techie! :horrified Trev has already said it, but I'll reinforce it: I've lost count of how many times I have said on this Forum that expiry of the warranty period does not mean you have no comeback if your purchase fails. During the warranty period the seller cannot just pass all responsibility to the manufacturer (or his agent), and must replace the item or refund your money if it cannot be fixed in a reasonable period of time. What is a "reasonable period" depends on the product and the impact of not having access to the faulty item. The impact of a week or three without an iPod is not the same as that for a business phone or printer, while a gaming computer is not as important as a business computer. Once the warranty has expired, it is up to the seller to provide the remedies, and whether or not they get any support from their supplier is of no consequence whatsoever to you as the purchaser. They can't ask you to wait for an extended period while they "negotiate" with the manufacturer or supplier, they can do all that after they fix your problem. I have had many items replaced, both in and out of warranty, including a new car that was well outside the warranty period and had 50,000K's on the clock, and a complete computer at the end of a three year warranty period. As ever, the three most important requirements for success are patience, politeness and persistence. Factual accuracy and truthfulness helps as well. Cheers Billy 8-{)	Billy T (70)
