Mobile charges. Internet ripoff. Enormous corporate profit relative to the number of customers.
Now that the Czarina has forced them to unbundle, perhaps she'll finish the job and split them into two parts. A service provider (left with the shareholders) and an infrastructure company (given back to the taxpayer for the risible sum they paid for it - plus interest).

Sorry, only meant to write the first line. Got carried away.

452071 2006-05-07 07:54:00 Telecom mobile charges are a rip??

I much prefer paying $10 to Telecom for 500 texts vs. $100 to Vodafone.

452072 2006-05-07 08:32:00 What's a text?
I have a telephone for telephone calls.
Anyway, that's contributing to the problem: my grandchildren each have two phones because of those swings and roundabouts.
More borrowed Chinese money going to Finland.
They're all a rip-off. Just one example - more than 10 years ago a cell phone call in Singapore cost 20c a minute - same as a landline. Result - everyone had a cell phone long before that happened here.
Vodaphone are no saints, but they're working in a scene set by Telecom. They don't have enough sense to understand that cheaper services leads to higher turnover and more profit.

Well my son has an 027 phone (actually he has an 021 as well) and for $10 per month on my phone bill I can ring it as many times as I like for a max of 1 hour per call. He can ring my landline from it for nothing also as many times as he likes.

Pretty good deal to me - whats Vodaphones equivalent again??

452075 2006-05-08 04:03:00 Sure! the local copper network has it limitations . Self explanatory :annoyed: What!,with the current network only being a very average interim solution at best . We have no other "real" viable alternative, outside of Wellington with TelstraClear Cable plans . Satellite [expensive] - Wireless [expensive/slow]

Sweeden/Finland/Norway on the ball in 2001 with massive Fibre backhaul investment .

. globalcrossing . com/xml/news/2001/february/08 . xml" target="_blank">www . globalcrossing . com

Unlikely to happen anytime soon in N . Z as Telecom Investment in Fibre Backhaul would benefit local broadband competition, and Telecom would not receive investment from other ISP's . This is something Govt sould also look into . How to lay Fibre at national level with all parties investing into infrastructure .

Then and only then will you see true broadband speeds as stated by your ISP .
The current situation is abysmal as Telecom has set contention ratios at a "Ludicrous" ratio of 150:1 and this is set for ALL ISP's . Hence, users with 3 . 5 mbps plan are only averaging 1 . 4 - 1 . 9 for international .

No wonder my Swedish friends laugh at me regarding current situation

Regarding the whole $10 Text thing with Telecom,
I used to work there and I just want to point out that Vodafone UK had $10 Texting Equivilant there 2 years ago, it was about 5 Pound and you had about 500 Texts, that was a really good price back then, Both Telecom and Vodafone NZ watched to see how it would pan out, Just after they ended the deal over there Telecom NZ released their Version right before Vodafone NZ could . That was why they use the Free weekends instead . So really it was Telecom copying Vodafone for this one .
