697310 2008-08-14 21:58:00 I have just bought a second hand computer for home network.
Its running XP (legal with COA sticker) is 2 ghz intel celeron 512mb ram.
Got everything up and running but its got an annoying problem.
On shutdown after say 10 minutes surfing it comes up with the following messages End program iexplore.exe this program not responding. I say messages because I have to end now about 10 to 15 times they come up every 5 seconds. Seems to take for ever to kill them all.
Also comes up with program not responding for SMax4pn but it only comes up once.
Hope someone can help dont know too much about computers.

697311 2008-08-14 22:33:00 Welcome to PressF1. :)

Did you do a clean install of windows when you got the PC?

Update Flash Player from www.adobe.com. Click the 'Get Adobe Flash Player' link.

What AntiVirus software do you have?

Do an online scan (www.eset.com) with NOD32.

Also, post a hijackthis (www.trendsecure.com) log, so we can see what's going on.

697314 2008-08-15 00:45:00 I'd recommend removing AVG Free and installing Avast Home (Also free) It's lighter on the system and better.

The one thing I can see there that may be causing problems is Spybot S & D.

Spybot itself is great, but it installs TeaTimer and SD Helper, which I have seen cause issues. I'd remove Spybot, and re-download the latest version (Now 1.6), but during the installation, untick the options for TeaTimer and SDHelper.

See if that helps anything.

You can run HijackThis and tick the following options. None of it's nasty, but it doesn't need to be there.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RemoteControl] "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PDVDServ.exe"

697316 2008-08-15 05:18:00 Can you access the Internet on another PC?

If so, disconnect the network cable from the problem PC and log on to PF1 on that other machine.

Try reinstalling Avast too.
