2008-08-18 00:13:00 | Hi all, I have been happily using Outlook 2003 for my email until a couple of weeks ago when I started getting the following error message everytime I do a Send/Receive . Task "pop2 . xtra . co . nz - Sending" reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The connection to the server was interrupted . If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) . The server responded: boxshapesquare$" where square is a square shape . I also notice that Outlook keeps trying to send 2 emails but I don't have any in the Send box to send . I now get daily Immediate Action emails from YahooXtra as follows Dear Customer, Our email security has been upgraded to help prevent misuse of email addresses . This upgrade will help guard against having email addresses used by unauthorised parties, i . e . when an email appears to come from one source but actually comes from another (also known as "spoofing") . You have received this message because you have recently attempted to send an email through Yahoo!Xtra Pro Mail from an address that does not match email addresses currently linked to your account . Due to changes made during the security upgrade, your email has been blocked and therefore not sent . Action required to ensure you can send email To ensure you are able to send emails from this address we need you to add the email address to your YahooXtra Pro Mail Account . Once this is completed you will be able to send email from these addresses again . How to verify your email address Simply follow the step-by-step instructions here: . xtra . co . nz/help/0,,4155-8603572,00 . html" target="_blank">www . xtra . co . nz These instructions will show you how to add additional email addresses to your email account using Yahoo!Xtra Pro Mail via webmail . Please note it will take approximately five minutes to verify each of the email addresses you send emails from . This only needs to be done once to send email again from that address . I never use YahooXtra Pro Mail and I don't have any additional email addresses . I followed the steps to verify my email address and there were no additional addresses found in doing that . Has anyone got any suggestions to get rid of this or am I going to have to sort it out with Xtra directly (groan)????

2008-08-18 00:52:00 | Change the pop3 server to pop3.xtra.co.nz. Not pop2. And call Xtra and verify your password is right, I've seen several times Xtra user's passwords have changed without them doing anything. Silly silly telecom. :groan:

2008-08-18 02:13:00 | When outlook says "task: pop2.xtra.co.nz" it's referring to the name of the account (in outlook) not the server being used. The server must be correct as it was working before. besides, the server for sending emails would be send.xtra.co.nz or smtp.xtra.co.nz The 2 emails being sent that don't exist and that message from xtra possibly could mean you have a bot on your PC which is trying to spam people - and which may have done something to your settings and caused the problem. What Antivirus do you run?

2008-08-18 03:11:00 | double-check your outlook email settings to make sure your username is the same as your email address. Until you get it sorted, you can still check your email at http://webmail.xtra.co.nz

2008-08-19 04:40:00 | Thanks for all the suggestions so far. 1. I should have typed pop3.xtra.co.nz in the error message, sorry about the confusion. 2. I use AVG Free and have rescanned using this, Superantispyware and Spybot Search & Destroy and I am still having the same error message coming up whenever I have Outlook open. 3. I can still send and receive emails so that is not affected so my Xtra password must be ok. Any other suggestions to try would be helpful, thanks.

2008-08-19 04:50:00 | Disable the mail scanning in AVG to see if that is causing it. | Safari (3993) | |
2008-08-19 04:51:00 | There's only one email account in you account settings? Sometimes the Yahoo! Xtra software creates a 2nd. | wratterus (105) | |
2008-08-20 21:20:00 | I have disabled the email scanning in AVG and that got rid of 1 of the 2 messages Outlook seems to keep trying to send. Guess that is better than nothing! I also checked my account settings and I have only one account but I noticed that the outgoing mail server is set to send.xtra.co.nz and I have always used smtp.xtra.co.nz, which is what my laptop is also set to. Is there any difference between the 2 server addresses I should be concerned about.

2008-08-20 21:36:00 | When you say "I can still send and receive emails so that is not affected so my Xtra password must be ok." do you mean from the desktop or laptop? The send.xtra.co.nz server uses different port settings and SSL From Xtra - These are the settings to use your Yahoo!Xtra Pro Mail with your POP email client: Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: pop3.xtra.co.nz (Use SSL, port: 995) Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: send.xtra.co.nz (Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication) Server requires a secure connection (SSL is required) Outgoing mail server requires authentication Account Name/Login Name: Your Xtra username (your email address without the "@xtra.co.nz") Email Address: Your Xtra email address (eg. username@xtra.co.nz ) Password: Your Xtra password
