697847 2008-08-17 01:39:00 Have changed hard drive on computer, formated and installed xp, got drivers for motherboard and run them
Computer is 2GHZ Intel Celeron 512mb ram, xp proffessional, no sound card as such, must be onboard. Has the 3 coloured plugs going to a little box in the computer
But got no sound go to control panel sounds volume tab is greyed out says no audio device, audio tab is greyed out.
Device manger under other devices has yellow marks for
multi media audio controller and video controller (vga compatible)
At a loss where to start
Thanks

697848 2008-08-17 01:51:00 The mobo drivers may only contain the chipset drivers, not the sound, video or LAN drivers.

Go back to the Intel site and do a search for the soundcard / audio drivers. Download them, then install them

The multi media audio controller are probably the soundcard drivers

The video controller you'll have to find out what the videocard is on it, and then download the drivers then install them

697849 2008-08-17 02:27:00 There are no cards in the slots
How do I get drivers for soundcard and video card if there are no cards in the slots?
Thanks

697850 2008-08-17 02:50:00 The sound will be onboard it doesnt need a card. Same goes for the video. Its probably onboard / on the mobo.

Go to the site like I said and download both of them

697851 2008-08-17 04:32:00 If you can see anything on the screen then you have onboard video card gary67 (56)
697852 2008-08-17 10:14:00 Thanks downloaded drivers got sound going, although having hassle installing drivers for video. Sound just clicked file and it installed itself. Tryed with video file but needs to installed some other way will look at it tommorow.
Is the video system required for web browsing?
When I play kids game cd the screen goes black and have to turn computer off at the wall
