697683 2008-08-16 10:15:00 I have a laptop running Windows Vista, which has a drive partitioned into two - 142GB each. I want to delete one of the partitions and extend the remaining partition into one large one. When I try to do this through the Disk Management function in Vista I get the following message: "The partition data (D) Simple Volume is currently in use. To force the deletion of this partition, click Yes.
WARNING: Forcing a deletion might cause unexpected errors in the application that is using this partition. Do you want to continue?"
My question is, is forcing the deletion likely to cause me problems? If yes, what steps do I need to take to continue safely? I am very new to partitions etc so if you could explain in very simple terms that would be great as I do not have a technical background. Thanks in advance.

No, the drive is empty.

697687 2008-08-17 09:44:00 If the drive is empty, then deleting it is OK. Then one can extend the first partition into the just created empty space. I don't know how easy or safe this is with Vista disk manager but if you have doubts, use the Linux boot disc that came with PC World a few months ago and use "GParted", Ubuntu's disk partitioner. david1000 (7485)
