455003 2006-05-15 09:04:00 Did anyone see that thing on the news about a new technology to fix short sightedness? im interested as i have the crappy problem and I would very much like to know more about this specific procedure. On google i got results ok LASIC and stuff like that but i think that might be the old technology and websites are slow to update to this new technology. anyway. any information is appreciated, im sure im not the only guy that's reluctant to get out the old specs :P. BTW is there an age bottleneck? do i have to overclock to 20 years old? im only 17! lol jamesyboi (6579)
455004 2006-05-15 11:01:00 What thing?
As for getting out the specs, do what I do and leave them in the drawer - just sit closer to your screen.

455005 2006-05-15 12:08:00 I saw the article. Looks good but I'm sure I heard them say something like $3,000 per eye. If that's correct then glasses are a much cheaper option. Peter M (852)
455006 2006-05-15 22:33:00 Lasik eye surgery isn't much cheaper than $3000 per eye either. :( FoxyMX (5)

455010 2006-05-16 02:35:00 Any surgery has a chance of going wrong. A book about Lasik by a surgeon who does a lot of it put me off. He was surprisingly careful with his recommendations. He doesn't like doing both eyes at once. He doesn't like doing both eyes at once because there's always the chance of changing poor vison to no vision. He doesn't fully correct, for good reasons, so you still need some correction.

One other problem is that you are myopic at 17, James. At about 40, presbyopia starts to happen. Not long to wait. :)

I've spent a few hours with various eye surgeons doing laser welding on my retinas. Both eyes have tears in the retina now, a couple of years after the first one detached.

455011 2006-05-16 02:51:00 I am 40+ years old and I really value my perfect eyesight, even though both my parents have been wearing glasses since their 20's.

The sought of surgery is really scary to me.

When I looked into it ('scuse the bad pun :p) several years ago it was $2000 per eye. I assumed the price would have gone up rather than down since then.

Who do you know does it for $1500? Not that I am interested now - I'm not prepared to risk any mistakes that might stuff up my vision.
