454355 2006-05-12 05:04:00 My wife has received for mother's day and a very belated birthday a modded xbox... how do I know how much hard drive space is being used up by what and where, and how much free space there is?

I'm totally new to this modded xbox thing (well to xbox entirely) - can anyone point me to somewhere where I can learn about how to operate everything to do with the mod part? And also whatever software makes it easier to use at the PC end (when connected)?

Thanks

Mike.

454356 2006-05-12 05:45:00 Interesting mothers day present

It depends on what dashboard you have loaded as to how you check hard drive space.
Do you have Xbox Media Center loaded? If not get it now!
Do you know what modchip or bios has been used?

Excuse my ignorance, but I'm assuming the "dashboard" is the menu thing that loads up when I turn it on?

I'm not sure what dashboard I have loaded, but there is an option about half way down the menu for xbox media player, and the next option is xbox media center.

I think the modchip is called EvoX (that's what displays on the Xbox boot screen) when I turn it on. Not sure what bios has been used?

Thanks,
Mike.

454358 2006-05-12 08:21:00 Yea, the dashboard is the menu that loads up when you turn on the xbox.
It sounds like you have the EvoX dashboard and maybe even an EvoX Bios.
It could be on a modchip but it could also have been flashed onto the onboard 'TSOP' chip over writing the Microsoft BIOS.
Anyway, if you load up Xbox Media Center there should be an option for 'My Files' or 'File Manager' and in there it should tell you how much space you have on the hard drive.
The hard drive will be in a few partitions, C & E are always there and then, depending on the size of the hard drive you may see F & even G. X, Y & Z are just partitions for cache and stuff when playing games.\
If you want to load stuff onto the xbox it is best to put it on F or G.
I use FlashFXP on my PC to connect to the xbox via FTP.

Have a look at Xbox Scene (http://www.xbox-scene.org) as they have tutorials on using a modified xbox.

454359 2006-05-12 09:00:00 Hmmm...

Thanks, I'll take a look at that Xbox scene.

The file manager in Xbox media center doesn't show how big the drives are, or how much space... does show how big each file is though, but that isn't much use...

454360 2006-05-12 09:42:00 Have a look in XBMC for the System Info option as that will tell you the model number of the hard drive which you can then use to look up the size on the net.
Can't tell you where to find the System Info option as it seems to be in different places depending on what version of XBMC you have.

454361 2006-05-12 10:06:00 So, this modded X-Box - not familiar with the model myself. Runs on nitro does it? Lowered suspension, mags, pop valve I imagine. Street machine or track only? Show us a pic please. :D Winston001 (3612)
454362 2006-05-12 12:01:00 I did a search in Google Images for 'pimped xbox' and this (www.join-me.co.uk) is one the images that comes up!!    CYaBro (73)
454363 2006-05-12 15:51:00 Change the skin in System Settings to Slayers25

This will display all the partitions for you at the main dash screen :)
