The ad was 'light hearted' but involved from memory a bit of electrocution, flame throwers etc but the ACA said that "advertisements should be prepared with a due sense of social responsibility, should not contain anything likely to cause serious or widespread offence, and should not contain dangerous practices which encourage a disregard for safety." I thought the ad was hilarious and well balanced ie both the guy and the girl had a good go at eachother and the 'stunts' were far fetched enough that they are unlikely to be imitated by the general (sane) public. I can't quite believe that people would actually lodge a complaint about this ad.... maybe they need to get a life along with the ACA. I also note that there was a similar ad on TV about the same time with a girl being zapped by a hair dyer (also light hearted), but it seems no-one complained. Maybe it's OK to do it to yourself, just not eachother? It's a sad world when the 'moral guardians' can stamp their foot over a bit of comedy. next thing you know they'll ban the Four Square ad with the two old ladies and the guy getting on the bus to see his girlfriend because eating choccies sends the wrong message to overweight people. Now if they banned those digusting toothpaste/toothbrush ads I'd be more than happy :) Maybe I'm a bit 'liberal'... but were any of the PF1ers out there offended by a bit of rivalry between the sexes? |

TV advertising is a really difficult field to achieve something which stands out from the rest. Toyota have been very successful with their Crumpie series, the Buggar dog, the bulls, and now the warring couple. Apparently it's a spoof on Mr and Mrs Smith. I'd never have dreamed this ad was objectionable. Bah humbug. :angry |
