453864 2006-05-11 01:56:00 That site takes top spot for having the most :yuck: adverts per unit of information. 45+ posts, each with a slew of ads!

From what I could gather, a Pentium D is overclocked to match the performance of 4.1 Ghz. :waughh:

453865 2006-05-11 02:29:00 No, the CPU the article is about was overclocked from 2.6ghz to 4.1ghz.

It is a budget dual core that can overclock extremely well, and it ends up being about as powerful as $1000 cpu's.

It has also won the place of the best overclocker.

453866 2006-05-11 03:14:00 According to my suppliers website the Pentium D 805 2.66GHz sells for about $300 while the Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.4GHz is about $2000!
Looks like I might have to buy one & overclock :D

453867 2006-05-11 03:44:00 Yeah, the prices I said were US$ I presume.

I think it said it can go to 3.8ghz with a zalman cpu cooler, and run absolutly fine. I know very little about overclocking, but I thought the article was very interesting.

453868 2006-05-11 05:34:00 Lets see, I dump my Athlon board and CPU and get an Intel one and this CPU and then have to overclock massively, so better change my ram too so I can save some money...nah... pctek (84)
453869 2006-05-11 07:52:00 but if you are running old hardware & looking at updating it sometime soon, this looks really good. Too bad by the time I'll be able to afford a full upgrade, they will probably have stopped production of the chip like has happened with the super overclockers of the past. Greven (91)
453870 2006-05-12 01:30:00 Morning all

Just read through all 40 or so pages on tom's, have being reading articles there for a while now... All prices on the site are in $US but you can get the same processor here in NZ for $245 - $300 depending on who you want to shop with,

Youe right mejo it will run upto 3.8Ghz with an oversize zalman air cooling unit which is mighty impressive for aircooling on an overclocked cpu. when going above 3.8 they moved to water cooling to stop the system shutting down from thermal warnings,

This could be fun to try for people looking at overclocking the article is quite descriptive, I'm tempted to try this myself.

453871 2006-05-12 05:00:00 As Greven said, this would be a brilliant cpu if you are currently running older hardware, and want a cheap upgrade.

Wish I had held off from buying my AMD one for a while, heh.... Not really, I got mine 6 months ago, and 6 months of pc use is worth more than saving $200 :)
