Sorry mate, never read back that far :( :crying

yep 478 OK - easy enough to replace, Like speedy I got a few laying about, sometimes if you are lucky the fasteners are in the board, but they usually require the motherboard to be removed, and the actual frame (retention frame) is screwed in place.

If you look at the last Pictures provided, you will see in each corner silver objects, they are the retaining nuts, and the screws are put in from the bottom of the board.

I think he means the bit that goes over the fan, to connect it to the mobo, not the retention mechanism on the mobo. A replacement fan should fix that

In thread 7 he changed it to Clip frame latch

Ok...i think I am confused now. Just to make sure I am up to speed with you both. The pic that you showed me is for a socket 478, my socket 2A7...right? Mobo...what is that? A replacement fan should fix...what? The silver things on the pic are screws that I can unscrew with out taking it out unless there is a nut behind it. I have not tried.

697777 2008-08-17 10:06:00 mobo = motherboard

I dont know what 2A7 is, it has nothing to do with a pentium 4

697779 2008-08-17 10:27:00 The retaining frame thats on the Board, if it is damaged it needs to be replaced, BUT only if its damaged, its held in place either by a screw/nut arrangement through the board, or just like the one I checked in the workshop with push down clips (I was looking for the 2A7 to see what/where that was written) Teh push downs are like a split pin that has a center piece that when pushed down spreads out under the board to hold it in place, like the screw method only accessible from under the board .

IF that frame is broken (hopefully its not) they are damn hard to find new .

No Offense meant here ----
To be honest should be replaced by someone who knows what they are doing other wise more damage can be done to the board .

What part of the country are you in ?

697781 2008-08-17 20:35:00 I am in Hawaii. What chances do I have...LoL. Errr Prob not much unless you want to pay someone from NZ to come over (air fares) and I'm sure they would install a new CPU frame/heatsink for nothing :D wainuitech (129)

I found the parts on ebay. But not the clips. I know I have some but wanted to get the plastic ones. Do you have clips? Maybe I could pay for the shipping and for the items I need? I do not know how it works on here about exchange of parts and such...I am not trying to violate any policies.
