697753 2008-08-17 08:24:00 Removed just one or both of the modules? stormdragon (6013)
697754 2008-08-17 08:26:00 There was only one there. It says it is a 256MB, DDR, 266MHz, CL2.5 puffins808 (14043)
697755 2008-08-17 08:29:00 Sorry I thought there were two.

If beeps indicate a memory error which is correct if there is none inserted.

Can you try placing the RAM in the other slot.

697756 2008-08-17 08:29:00 well I would say that its dead, but it is reaching the end of it's lifespan anyway, Dell Dimension 2000 series PCs are quite old, so you might expect it to fail. SPARTAN 860 (2618)
697757 2008-08-17 08:41:00 I put it in the other slot and it turned on. It is having some issues though. I was able to get into it in safe mode and it shortly turned off. It turns itself off. puffins808 (14043)
697758 2008-08-17 08:50:00 Check your fans work and are clean and clear.

Otherwise sounds like the things dead. Its basically reached a point where theres nothing more with your limited knowledge that would be worth trying.

697759 2008-08-17 08:51:00 just looking back on your Pictures, have a look at the CPU heatsink - thats the big silver thinned object under the green duct - have a look and see if there is any sort of clip holding it in place.

Those two clips you provided pictures of before ( last pic post 34) look like heat sink retaining clips.

If the heatsink is not connected correctly the CPU will overheat and cause the PC to shut down - sometimes in a matter of seconds.

Could you tell me how it goes on. I tried to figure it out but couldn't.

If the heatsink is on properly, you'll hear it click into place, on the mobo
