698080 2008-08-18 10:17:00 You install Uphclean, thats it, it runs as a service

Did you check the other links I posted?? Those should fix the other errors

Yes I did thanks.

So the Ethernet port looks to be OK and it was coincidental that these problems happened around the same time? I was worried that I wouldn't be able to run broadband on this PC!!

698082 2008-08-18 10:22:00 Cool :)

Thanks for your help Speedy and everyone else, hopefully that'll fix the problems.

And hopefully Xnet and Telecom will fix their problem tomorrow and I can finally get rid of dial-up :)

698083 2008-08-18 22:51:00 These should be the latest drivers for your video card:

download.nvidia.com

698084 2008-08-18 23:15:00 Sometimes the latest version of the drivers arent always the best.

The drivers for these cards (ATI) from the ATI site crashed with nearly every version on the other PC here. It didnt matter what version I installed.

I decided to install the drivers for them from the ASUS site (since theyre ASUS cards). And it hasnt crashed since

And the drivers frm the ASUS site (I found), are a lot better than the ATI ones.

ie: You can set the resolution to 1440x900 and it stays there.Even if you use TV out. With the ATI drivers, you have to go into CCC all the time, and change the resolution.

698085 2008-08-18 23:39:00 Yeah but this is nvidia we're talking about, not ATi (who's drivers are ****) Agent_24 (57)
698086 2008-08-18 23:42:00 Nvidia drivers are just as bad. Thats why I changed to ATI in the first place.

Because I used to use Nvidia cards and the Nvidia drivers did nothing but crash

698087 2008-08-19 08:34:00 Well got Xnet all connected today, which is great, I downloaded and updated my drivers and have done all the other things suggested. I got a few more errors today, not blue screen but just a box saying explorer.exe had recovered from a serious error, got it 2 or three times before I updated the drivers and once or twice after. Seems Ok at the moment.

I ran eventvwr and got the following - any ideas on what is causing it?

698088 2008-08-19 08:51:00 Seems explorer is damaged in some way - two things you can try, one was actually written in the last event logs.

1st click start/run type in sfc /scannow & press enter, make sure you have your XP cd handy as it may ask for it.

2nd thing you can try - double click on My computer, right click your Hard Drive/Properties/Tools Tab / Click on the "Check Now" Button, put ticks in both check boxes and click Start - You should get a message saying it cant scan and do you want it to scan next time windows starts, select yes, then reboot, let it run through chkdsk, ( may take a while- but don't stop it) it will hopefully find and repair any faulty files.

NOTE:Most of the time there is no bad side effects, on the very odd occasion it can cause problems.

698089 2008-08-19 09:09:00 Update it to SP3 if this isnt on it now

Since explorer.exe is now upto 6.0.2900.5512

Or If SP3 is installed get it up to date
