| 455166 | 2006-05-16 05:29:00 | Yes, I'm starting to feel like an idiot for hanging around here while the rest of my family and friends high-tail it to sunnier shores, but then I'm in that category where: I am a born NZer Sure you're not what we used to know as a Whinging P? Single, don't have kids, so can't get DPB/Family assistance/working for families crap So why should you expect this type of assistance? Self employed, so give half my earnings to Helen and her cronies Funny? Top tax rate is I believe 39% not 50%. Live in Auckland, so pay a disproportionate amount of my petrol tax to keep the rest of NZ going. Not so - the rest of the country is paying for your roads etc in our petrol tax Believe me- if you're an imigrant (sp?) on a 'low income', with kids and a mortage you've got it made. The government gives me absolutely nothing in the way of incentives/hand-outs because I'm single, educated and earning my own keep. On what basis then do you think you extra assistance? Seems I'm now also being asked to pay for 'looking after battered wives', tolls for driving on Auckland streets (that I've already paid for in petrol tax and GST on the petrol tax), a railway line for the World Cup... sure there's a few more I can think of. So we all have to live in the real world. - ever tried to drive to Melbourne Airport, if so you'll get some idea of how much you'll pay in the future I would sincerely like to see any NZ government actually give something back to those who work their butts off to get ahead and who also contribute a large amount to the tax take so other people can be paid to have babies, take maternity leave then get even more money just to sit around and 'look after' the offspring. Rant over... Ozzy is looking ever more inviting  . So off you go then - the rest of us will keep the lights on until you lose your blinkers. |

| 455169 | 2006-05-16 05:53:00 | PCTEK: I feel more sorry for you than I do myself . . . half of nothing is not a lot  And here was I thinking my power bill had gone up because you were using too much electricity :D DVM: If you're self employed you pay 12 . 5% GST on your gross earnings, up to 39% personal tax, plus you pay your own ACC levies, you also do not get any allowance for holidays, sick leave, maternity leave or any superannuation contributions from employers . Can you think of a good reason why I should work hard to subsidise people who want to have children? . . . I can't . You will also find that by far the largest proportion of cars are registered and driven in the metropolitan area of Auckland, yet all the petrol tax collected goes into the consolidated fund, and a high proportion of the money used to subsidise roading around other parts of NZ . To put it bluntly, if money collected in Auckland was used in Auckland . . . the South Island would still have dirt tracks . There's no blinkers on me, I actually think NZ is a great place- it's just becoming increasingly difficult to justify living here . |

| 455170 | 2006-05-16 07:48:00 | Anyone watch that thing last night on TVOne with Te Radar? Yes, masses of people leaving for Aussie. Masses more moving into Auckland. If you draw a line across NZ with half of the population one side and half the other - the centre is now Otorohanga. Auckland increases by 100 people per day. A good reason to encourage some more of them to go to Aussie....hehe. It came down to to there aren't the jobs elesewhere so much anymore and then businesses leave so people leave. Once 75% lived in the South Island.... And apparently most of NZ is not rural or in farming even though NZ is generally thought of as rural. Apparently compared to a lot of countries we are massively urban. And I voted for Helen Clark. I like her. Yes, she has faults. The main one is she is a politician. But compared to some of the others.... |

| 455172 | 2006-05-16 08:47:00 | If the choice was between Auckland and Aussie then I would take Aussie anytime, Good people, plenty of work, A city to suit your personal lifestyle, Good wages, and ITS SUNNY ALL THE TIME. I remember winters spent swimming at Noosa.... If I wasn't a Kiwi I wouldn't spit on this country. |

I heard from my sister that majority of australian's are not that nice when compared to NZ.They are more racist. Hmm...Haven't been to Australia so not sure but my sister frequently flies everywhere with her job. |

| 455174 | 2006-05-17 02:02:00 | Yeah I have been there too and worked with the Aussie Army,I am in the NZ Army and the Aussie guys are very racist and treat their women pretty bad too. That makes it easy for a Kiwi to hook up with a Aussie chick-they think were great, dont swear as much as aussie guys, treat them good, look after them etc. Went out drinking with them, boy you should of heard what they said!! One guy had his girlfriend with him and treated her like she was dirt and I spoke to her and she was like this was normal aussie guy behaviour.I couldn't believe it.She was hot too. ;) Another aussie guy had his girlfriend with him and she got wasted-drink wise and he just left her behind at one club and went to another club and hooked up with another aussie chick. Aparently it was her problem for not handling her groog properly!!? Us Kiwis ended up looking after the aussie chicks, hehe. ;) |

Having lived in Auckland the last thing I'd want to do is move to an even bigger city . As for sun, plenty of that on the East Coast of NZ . Especially the East in the South . My friend would love to get rain, she gets it so rarely . Everythings dry, she has to be careful of water and she gets sick of the heat in Summer . |
