697800 2008-08-17 06:50:00 I tried avast and thought it was a pig. I couldn't make sense of any of the settings. I just want somethign that'll scan once a day and kill virus. I'm not interested in all the other guff they put in them these days :( If you want a free AV sometimes the support is not there.

If you want a AV that you install set up easy then get Nod32. Fit and forget.

697802 2008-08-17 12:06:00 I refuse to pay for virus/spyware scanners, becasue I think the threat is over hyped by the AV companies.

There's a lot of fear mongering goes on from those guys, and I personally think that they're probably responsible for a lot of the threats themselves, that's assuming that a lot of the threats are even real to start with.

So I'll give avast another go because I tend to agree that AVG has turned into a dog since it's latest upgrade.

697803 2008-08-17 21:43:00 I WILL NEVER USE AVAST it didnt install properly ended up putting in a new hard drive to resolve problem

Well sorry but that just shows your level of incompetence. No-one has to replace hardware because of a failed software install.

697804 2008-08-18 02:05:00 +1 Avast
Unfortunately, I agree, AVG has been going downhill since 8.0 - Avast *seems* to be so much lighter on system resources.

That said Ive currently got no AV or Firewall on my EeePC, or XP / Ubuntu Desktop ;)
