2006-05-15 10:44:00 | Xtra dial-up service here in Northland is pretty much cr..cr..undesirable. NZ sites load slow and anything overseas is out of the question. Can't even get on to the Xtra site. Online games are working ok though :P

2006-05-15 10:46:00 | What primary DNS server should be used? Mine are set to automatic and I don't know what Xtra's are. Xtra's primary DNS server is 202.27.184.3 Set the secondary DNS server to Telstraclear's 203.96.152.4

2006-05-15 10:53:00 | Xtra did some changes to their DNS earlier this year. Xtra Primary is 202.27.158.40 and Secondary is 202.27.156.72 .

2006-05-15 11:00:00 | I liked Xtra's 'no known faults currently' on their site... I like that its said that since the bginning of April when half the country suddenly got faster broadband and the other half got worse broadband. But obviously that isn't a major problem...

2006-05-15 11:01:00 | It's not just DNS - services that don't require any name resolution (i.e. direct connections to an IP) are also intermittant. The XTRA phone tech seemed pretty clueless... PaulD - you're right, but the old servers are still running, and generally work better than the new ones. Possibly due to less load.

2006-05-15 11:05:00 | Set the secondary DNS server to Telstraclear's 203.96.152.4 That's a relief, we had a brief power outage earlier tonight, just enought to make the UPS drop in and out, then after that I had no Internet. Since then I have gone through all the diagnostic brouhaha including rebooting my router and having to re-enter all the settings. Finally hooked up the laptop on freenet dialup to check PF1 and found that it was Xtra all along! You'd think I would have learned by now to make PF1 my first stop. :groan: Back on Jetstream now, courtesy of Telstra Clear, and my goodness the net is faster without all of those other users hogging the BW! :D Cheers Billy 8-{)

2006-05-15 11:20:00 | What are the old Xtra DNS servers??? 202.27.184.3, and (I think) 202.27.184.4. Update on XTRA: PPP connection keeps failing, but connection to the exchange is fine. Telstra DNS is excellent. Both the new and old XTRA DNS servers are having problems.
