| 454007 | 2006-05-12 09:54:00 | Having only licensed breeders allowed to have cats which have not been desexed horrifies me. We would end up with the same situation the dog world has got into with its terrifying freaks - dogs unable to breath properly, physical attributes which look more like deformities. Give me a good old mongrel any day (although I am rather drawn to greyhounds myself). I might add that we do own a couple of Abysinian cats and a true Heinz special. ALL neutered. But please we must let the cat world breed naturally to a reasonable extent. Tom sorry? pure breeds are bred to not have the deformaties you speak of. its the mongrels that you say which often display signs of inbreeding, dodgy hips etc. did you know a breeder will give you a warranty on your dog if it develops deformaties? quite frankly, have you been down to the spca to see how many kittens abandoned there because the owners are too degenerate to get them desexed? |

| 454008 | 2006-05-12 23:35:00 | This man should get a life ... "He would introduce a night-time curfew (any cat breaking it would be euthanised on the spot)" LINK (www.stuff.co.nz) I think there are more important issues to address. So what's your problem here exactly? This practice is already common in Australia. The laws were brought in only because of irresponsible cat owners who are quite happy to let their animals roam around the neighbourhood freely, making mess in other people's gardens and causing pain and suffering to local wildlife. The same thing happens here in New Zealand, but the majority of cat owners seem to be too ignorant and selfish to understand or accept this. Cats are pets - they are not wild animals, and therefore need to be controlled. Dogs have to be, so why are cats exempt? Any suggestion otherwise is just an excuse to avoid the necessary time and expense that is required to look after these animals. It's not an issue of cat-hating v cat-loving etc - it's about making people responsible, cleaning up the environment, and protecting local wildlife. In a nutshell, the guy is definitely on to a good thing. But he faces an uphill struggle simply because of the number of blind, hysterical cat lovers outweigh the number of people who care about such problems. |

The cat breeding world has not yet got itself into a mess but if you don't think we have gone mad with dogs then look at Crufts show one year. Dogs that cannot breath properly - cannot see through their hair - suffer terribly from various ailments - are bred like they are, only to satisfy human desire for some odd ball appearance. I cringe when I see some of the results. Some breeds even seem to suffer mental problems. Yes mongrels can be pretty bad at times but the deformities are NOT deliberate. Despite this I like various breeds a lot - I love greyhounds and whippets, my best dog was supposed to be a cross between a Whippet and a Lakeland Terrier. Visualise a heavy built Whippet, with stamina thrown in as well as speed. Wonderful dog. I still miss him after 72 years. Tom |

Wrong. They get these problems because of the way they have been bred into freaks in the first place. Then licensed breeders check for obvious signs of the problem and cull them. Show me an original dog....theres very few. Licensed cat breeders although there are a few twisted breeds on the whole don't breed cats into freaks. |

| 454011 | 2006-05-13 03:45:00 | that is possibly the dumbest thing ever, i mean really, cats ''destroying'' gardens? whats the worst they could do, have a **** on your lawn?..i mean really, ***, these people are idiots, you cant control your cat, if it wants to go outside at night to have a ****/piss it will, you cant control it, and how are they gonna regulate 1 cat per house, i mean, what if someone has 3 cats, the other 2 will get killed?...honestly. | jesse_jax (9283) | ||
| 454012 | 2006-05-13 03:52:00 | Well if cats are chewing up your plants. Grow stuff like Daffodils and Lillys. It'll poison them and you can't get in trouble since the cats ate it voluntarily. | bob_doe_nz (92) | ||
| 454013 | 2006-05-13 04:00:00 | One of my cats asked me to post this: We want the Council to give our organisation $100 million over the next 10 year to get humans under control. We insist on allowing breeding only by licenced breeders. We require a curfew, to stop people roaming the streets and getting into mischief, especially the ones who drive cars on our streets. We require microchips to be inserted in all city councillors and members of parliament for a start. That will deal with the really dangerous breeds. And we can euthanise Ray Spring and the members of his "organisation", to make Christchurch a fit place for cats to live. |

You can control your cat. Lock the door. If it's a problem, then don't have it. Why should others have to put up with someone's cat crapping in their garden? People manage to control dogs without a problem. Perhaps people with your attitude just can't be bothered? |
